Palm Pre Plus launched on AT&T

Image
The boardroom drama behind the HP acquisition wasn't the only Palm news today -- the company also launched the AT&T Palm Pre Plus . No surprises here -- it's going to $149, decidedly more than Verizon's $29 with free Mobile Hotspot service -- but hey, at least it's out there, and you get a free Touchstone in the deal, so that's nice.

Motorola Ruth / Flipout leaks again, due in June?

Image
We're still not quite sure to make of this odd little square of a Motorola, but it certainly looks like it's coming our way soon: Italian site Zumo says the Ruth (or Flipout, as we've seen it called) is actually the Moto MB511 , and it's due out sometime in June. We're also told that it'll have WiFi, GPS, and a memory card slot, but that's pretty par for the course -- what we're really curious about it how this thing actually works in person. We'll just have to wait and find out.

Motorola Motoroi getting Android 2.1, bound for UK?

Image
There's no word yet on when the Motorola Motoroi will make it to T-Mobile (in the industry we call that "the T-Motoroiola rumor") but there has definitely been a good deal of chatter concerning this handset. The latest has Pocket-lint confirming a UK release with Moto itself. Offering similarities to Taipei's HSPA-lovin' XT701, users in Ol' Blighty (and the rest of the UK) can look forward to an 8-megapixel camera (with a Xenon flash), support for 720p video, mini HDMI, and an unspecified processor boost. In addition, Android 2.1 is likely to be part of the deal. We have neither a timeline nor a price, and the veracity of this rumor is yet to be established (although it does seem like a no-brainer), but if this all goes down as Pocket-lint says it will you can color us Yanks mighty jealous.

BlackBerry Bold 9800 slider coming next month as an AT&T exclusive?

Image
We've still got thousands of unanswered questions (well, maybe not thousands, but definitely dozens) about RIM's upcoming BlackBerry 6 platform -- and it's starting to look like we might be answering those questions at retail by way of this Bold 9800 slider that's been making the rounds lately. BGR claims that the handset is lining up for a mid- to late-June release on AT&T, with the carrier having placed a substantial million-plus unit order to lock it up as an exclusive for some undetermined length of time (much as Verizon has managed to do both with the Storm and the Storm2). We hate to point out the obvious, but from a PR perspective, June's not the best month to be announcing and / or releasing anything that isn't an iPhone -- and when you look at the 9800's form factor and the baby steps that BlackBerry 6 seems to make toward boosting consumer appeal, we don't think you can make an argument that this is a sufficiently different market segmen

Google changes Nexus One plans, will stop selling handsets online

Image
Although Google launched the Nexus One with grand plans to radically change the way consumers purchased phones and service, it looks like the experiment has fizzled to an end -- the company just announced that will eventually stop selling handsets online and instead partner with carriers to sell the N1 in-store while using its website to promote "a variety of Android phones available globally." Google says customers simply want a hands-on experience before buying a phone, but we'd say the lack of subsidies from any carrier except T-Mobile and some serious customer service issues probably played in killing Google's original sales strategy -- and of course, both Verizon and Sprint essentially refused the N1 in favor of the bespoke Incredible and EVO 4G. We'd also say that Android as a whole will remain unaffected, since the Nexus One was never a huge seller, but it's still rare that a company simply gives up a business model like this, and we don't know if

Wi-Fi Sync app rejected by Apple, headed to Cydia for $9.99

Image
Can't say we're surprised to hear that Apple rejected Greg Hughes' Wi-Fi Sync app . You know, the app that allows you to wirelessly sync your iPhone / iPod touch with iTunes without having to USB tether to your computer. Messing with Apple's synchronization technology is a pretty big no-no as demonstrated by Palm's webOS bluff. Here's the rejection as explained by Greg from an unnamed Apple rep over the phone: "While he agreed that the app doesn't technically break the rules, he said that it does encroach upon the boundaries of what they can and cannot allow on their store. He also cited security concerns." So while you won't find it in Apple's App Store, it's available now on Cydia for a cool $9.99. You have jailbrokenyour device haven't you? Don't make us get all MuscleNerd up in here.

Dell CEO: Streak coming next month to Telefonica O2, 'later this summer' to AT&T

Image
You know who can't stop talking about (or showing off) the Dell Streak / Mini 5 ? Company CEO Michael Dell, that's who. The man once again returned with his Android-powered 5-inch display of choice, showing it off on stage at the Citrix Synergy conference this morning. Sure, we've seen the handset ad nauseum at this point -- we're even a proud owner of one prototype -- but here's the quote that piqued our interest: "this [phone] will be available starting next month, first with our partner 02 Telefonica [sic] in Europe, then later this summer with our pretty good partner here in the United States, AT&T." He couldn't be much more direct, and we couldn't get it from a more knowing source. Excited for the near future yet?

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is likely NTT DoCoMo's best selling smartphone -- ever

Image
Japan's wireless networks have a longstanding, legendary reputation for existing in some parallel plane that's technologically light years ahead of the rest of the world, but that reputation's unquestionably in greater danger today than in any point in the past fifteen years. Why? Though the featurephones offered by NTT DoCoMo, SoftBank, and KDDI are ultra high-spec beasts, they're still featurephones at the end of the day -- and this comes at a time when smartphones are finally becoming true cultural phenomena across the remainder of the developed world (and, in some cases, the developing world). There's no greater evidence of this than the word this week that Sony Ericsson's Xperia X10 -- a phone that's been met with lukewarm reviews, including from Engadget Japanese's own Ittousai -- has allegedly become NTT DoCoMo's best-selling smartphone in history, a fact that would seem completely inexplicable in any other market globally. What makes it poss

T-Mobile getting fuchsia BlackBerry 8520 on May 19?

Image
If this rumor came true, it'd be just about the least shocking phone-related event in recent memory; both RIM and T-Mobile have reputations for releasing devices in multiple colors, and the Curve 8500 series is no exception. Anyhow, the story goes that T-Mobile's BlackBerry Curve 8520 will be graced with a third color -- fuchsia, which doesn't look nearly as shocking as it sounds -- on May 19, joining the black and white versions already available in the lineup. We'd probably still take a Bold 9700 over this, but you know what the 8520 has that the 9700 doesn't? A fuchsia version, that's what.

Samsung Moment update to Android 2.1 available at long last?

Image
Sure, it's been leaked already -- but is Moment-gate 2010 finally about to draw to a close? Quite possibly, because folks running the firmware update executable found on Sprint 's site are apparently ending up with a phone powered by Android 2.1 when all is said and done. Considering the fact that the Moment runs stock Android, the update feels long overdue -- but Eclair updates are still pretty hard to come by no matter what kind of phone you're using, so we're just delighted to see it finally happen. Moment owners: can you do us a solid and check this out (assuming you're brave enough) and let us know how it goes in comments?

Is this the Samsung Acclaim for US Cellular? (update: we're pretty sure it is)

Image
So regional carrier US Cellular dropped the bomb this week that it had scored an exclusive on a fresh Android handset from Samsung coined the R880 Acclaim, but unfortunately, it failed to actually show us the thing. We've just gotten a tip alleging that the handset you're looking at here is the Acclaim, and we'd say there's a good chance it's real -- we know it's got a QWERTY keyboard, for instance, paired to a 3.2-inch HVGA display. Unfortunately, prospective buyers are waiting until July for a release, but tell us: does this shot give you hope that the phone's going to rock, or does it break your spirit into a million jaded pieces? Update: Alright, we've gotten more evidence that leads us to believe that this is almost certainly the Acclaim. Our doubt meter is hovering near zero on this one.

Bing turn-by-turn navigation for Windows Mobile gets taken for a test drive

Image
Microsoft certainly added all the right features to its Bing navigation app for Windows Mobile , but does it actually deliver the goods in real world use? It does according to the folks at PocketNow , who have put the app through its paces and kindly provided a quick demo video of it running on an HTC HD2. While there's nothing too shocking or surprising, it looks like the voice input works well, and the turn-by-turn directions seem to be at least up to par with your average navigation device -- it even has a few nice touches like being able to tap on the screen to repeat the instructions. Head on past the break to check it out the video and, if you're still unsure, you can always take the app for a spin yourself -- it is free, after all.

L5 universal remote for iPhone now shipping for $50

Image
Back in the olden days, you spent the better part of a grand for a big touchscreen programmable universal remote -- and if you were lucky, it might have a color display. But this is 2010, which means you spend fifty bucks, slap a little black box to the bottom of your iPhone, and call it good. L5's self-named L5 Remote for the iPhone and iPod touch involves a free download from the App Store paired with a 1.25 x 0.85-inch dongle, together creating a solution capable of storing up to 1,000 configurable screens and controlling devices from up to 30 feet away. It's available now from L5's site for $49.95 and will hit a handful of top-tier online retailers by the end of the month; follow the break for the full press release.

Keepin' it real fake: phoney Armani handset borrows some of that Samsung glamor

Image
When we reviewed the Samsung Omnia II , we forgot to mention one major drawback: the lack of Giorgio Armani branding. Luckily the KIRFmeisters of Shenzhen have picked up where the original manufacturer dropped the ball. And they threw in a QWERTY keyboard to boot! No word on price or availability of the KIRF Samsung Omnia Pro Giorgio, but that's probably for the best. And yes, it has dual SIM cards. [Thanks, Hiroshi] Update: Egads! We totally forgot about the actual Samsung Omnia Pro Giorgio! But let's be honest here -- it is highly forgettable.

New iPhone in Vietnam spotted running iPhone OS 4?

Image
This is a bit of a confusing one, but we just got tipped an additional shot of this 4th generation iPhone thatleaked out in Vietnam, but this time with a big twist: it appears to be running iPhone OS 4 . Or at least displaying a screenshot of the new OS, with that telltale wallpaper in the background. We have no idea how this crew might've circumvented Apple's lockdown of the device, and there's always the chance this is some sort of Photoshop or other trickery. Still, a source has confirmed to us that the markings "N90 PRO2" indicate an older prototype N90 (the Apple codename for the new iPhone), which refers to "Working Prototype 2" and might possibly be easier to enable than the newer, lock tight model Gizmodo obtained. Also, despite the photo's out-of-focus nature, the display (or at least its contents) doesn't appear nearly as sharp as those previous shots we saw of the "fireball" screen. We're digging for more info as we spea

Samsung Galaxy S and Wave 'coming soon' to Vodafone UK

Image
Perhaps eager to steal some of the thunder from Everything Everywhere's recent debut, Vodafone has updated its Coming Soon page to show a selection of new handsets, which is highlighted by Samsung's pair of Super AMOLED beasts, the Wave and Galaxy S. The Wave brings the new Bada sensibility to British shores, while the Galaxy S will be pretty much the most advanced Android handset the UK has yet seen. It runs version 2.1 with Samsung's own skin on top, but it's the hardware behind it that'll be pushing Brits to upgrade. Hit the source link to peruse the full list, which also includes the new BlackBerry Pearl 3G, but do remember to be patient -- an Amazon pre-order listing for the Wave (priced at £350, or 521 greenbacks) indicates a one to three month waiting period.

Android 2.2 'Froyo' to include USB tethering, WiFi hotspot functionality

Image
And the good Froyo news just keep flowing in. TechCrunch have flexed their exclusive muscle this morning in revealing their discovery that Android 2.2 will come with built-in tethering and WiFi hotspot support. That means you'll be able to use your phone's 3G internet connection to hook your laptop up to the worldwide webosphere, with a choice of wired or wireless methods. Of course, this dreamy scenario will be subject to the big bad network operators permitting -- or at least not forbidding -- you to do such awesome things with your hardware, but at least we know the goods are being baked into this forthcoming release from Google. Frozen yogurt for all!

Samsung i5801 makes a cameo, script reads 'entry-level Android 2.1 device'

Image
INT. APARTMENT - DAYTIME An unseemly Samsung touchscreen device opens the scene, being held by one HOWARD CHUI. Its size is comparable to the Galaxy Spica but something doesn't feel as momentous here. Background is calm, likely the top of a table. He improvises from the script. HOWARD (improvising) What we're looking at is the Samsung i5801 , an entry-level Android 2.1 phone sporting a slightly customized UI. The device sports a 240 x 400 (possibly 240 x 480) screen and a 3 megapixel camera. Storage is around 300MB built-in but supports MicroSDHC. Connectivity-wise, there's Wi-Fi, GPS, and possibly Bluetooth 3.0. Pretty run of the mill, no word on price or release, but it's almost certain to target a much more cash-conscious section of the market.

Kin Media Sync for Mac syncs Kin media with Mac

Image
Sync music, sync photos, sync too much money into a mediocre phone. Now that we've gotten the amateur comedy hour out of the way, it's time to bring you the news that Kins and Macs will henceforth play very nicely together thanks to the just released Media Sync software from Mark/Space. Chosen by Microsoft as the exclusive provider of Mac syncing capabilities for Kin, the company is offering iTunes and iPhoto integration, whereby you'll able to transfer playlists and image albums both to and from your Kin device, as well as a neat transcoding feature to make videos playable on it

Sprint's HTC EVO 4G put through its bandwidth-sucking paces

Image
So, since you're stuck paying $10 extra per month for "premium data services" (not that bad of a 4G tax, if you ask us), what wonders await you on the HTC EVO 4G , fueled by Sprint's next-gen network? Well, if these best-case-scenario tests we just did are any indication: everything you ever dreamed of. Of course, Sprint's WiMAX might end up stumbling up the steps of reality, but there's no denying that this is 21st century technology that's worthy of some of the excitement that's been lavished upon it. We just saw demos of Qik video conferencing, YouTube HQ (output brilliantly over HDMI), simultaneous data and voice usage, and even a straight-up speed test (4Mbps down, 1Mbps up, the latter of which is a hard cap). The phone performed brilliantly in each scenario, but of course that's to be expected when you have a 4G tower in the building. Check out the videos of all this breathless action after the break. Added bonus? All four (totaling about 10

Sprint selling HTC EVO 4G on June 4 for $199

Image
Everyone's favorite WiMAX-powered Android device finally has a date and a price, and you don't have terribly long to wait: June 4 is the date that you'll want to be lining up outside your local Sprint store for an EVO 4G, $199 in hand (assuming you're signing up for a new contract, of course -- according to the fine print, the full cost is $450 before all discounts). Interestingly, Sprint has specifically called out that you'll be able to video chat (remember, the EVO 4G has a front-facing cam) over both 3G and 4G using Qik -- not a bad choice, considering the company's well-established expertise with streaming live video out of handsets. Unfortunately, there's a downside to all this: customers will be paying a mandatory (as confirmed to us by Sprint reps) $10 per month "Premium Data add-on" on top of their plan -- ostensibly for the privilege of enjoying WiMAX when they're in a Sprint 4G market -- and the 8-device WiFi hotspot feature runs a

Motorola 'Xtreme' coming to Verizon?

Image
We wish we had more detail to give you, but we've gotten reliable word that Verizon will begin testing a new Android-powered device from Motorola next week called the "Xtreme." We don't have specs handy, but considering that Big Red's got the Devour and the Droid is well on its way to middle age, it would make sense for a new phone from Moto (particularly one with such an Xtreme-ly awesome name) to be more toward the high end of the spectrum -- possibly something along the lines of the rumored Shadow (pictured). Will give you more details just as soon as we have them.

Microsoft and Verizon say Kin's monthly pricing isn't crazy, when you think about it

Image
Whatever you think about the Kin devices themselves, the one thing most folks can agree on is that their monthly pricing is more than a little out of step with their target audience -- except for Microsoft and Verizon, that is. Speaking to Computerworld , Microsoft senior product manager Greg Sullivan and Verizon spokesperson Brenda Raney both raised the issue of the Kin's ability to backup to the cloud when defending the high monthly price ($30 for data on top of a standard phone plan), with Sullivan saying that once customers "realize the value of this, they'll realize it's a great deal." On another note, Sullivan also used some interesting language when discussing the possibility of app downloads for the Kin, saying that "over the longer term" Microsoft will be "merging" the Kin and Windows Phone 7 platforms and adding downloadable apps. Now, that's not a radical departure from what we've heard from Microsoft before, but "merge

LG's $100 Ally crashing Verizon stores on May 20th, pre-orders start tomorrow (update: now with specs)

Image
We had a hunch that LG's Android 2.1 -based Ally would see its first customers on May 20th, and Verizon Wireless has finally opened up and confirmed as much this morning. The Iron Man 2-infused smartphone -- which we spent some time with yesterday -- will be available in all VZW stores beginning May 20th, with pre-orders going live for phone and web customers tomorrow. We've already given you the rundown when it comes to specs (they're after the break for those with memories shorter than their shoelaces), but now we're able to confirm that it'll sell for $99.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and a new two-year contract. A well-specced Android smartphone for under a Benjamin? Not bad, LG. Update: Nothing in particular to write home about, but LG has just unveiled the Ally's nearly complete spec sheet

Office Mobile 2010 released, free upgrade for WinMo 6.5 users (update)

Image
After having gone to public beta late last year, Office Mobile 2010 is now available in conjunction with the retail release of the full desktop version of Office 2010, bringing comprehensive Word, Excel, and PowerPoint editing capabilities to the pocket -- on Windows Mobile 6.5, that is. Yes, granted, Windows Phone 7 is Microsoft's biggest mobile news this year, but there'll be a huge legacy base of 6.5 users out there for a long time to come, and they're pretty much the core audience for the sorts of features that Office Mobile 2010 is offering: SharePoint integration for grabbing documents from the office, a nifty Bluetooth controller mode for PowerPoint presentations, and so on... you know, suit-and-tie stuff. The download is available today from Windows Marketplace for users of 6.5 devices with an older version of Office Mobile installed -- so go on, Tiger, whip up the hottest quarterly reports the world has ever seen. We know you have it in you. Follow the break for R

The New Recommendations for Sun Exposure

Image
According to one study, up to three-quarters of Americans are vitamin D deficient, likely due to increased use of sunscreens. Why? Because the sun's rays trigger the body to produce vitamin D, which an increasing body of research suggests can reduce the risk of certain cancers, protect the heart, and even decrease your chances of catching a cold. Coming from a dermatologist this statement may be surprising, but spending a little time in the sun sans SPF can be a good thing. A study published in the September 2009 issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology showed that melanoma patients with higher levels of vitamin D in their systems had thinner, less severe--and therefore less deadly--melanoma lesions than those who had low levels of vitamin D. Other studies suggest that vitamin D is associated with a reduced risk of developing multiple sclerosis and breast and colorectal cancers. Are you at risk of D deficiency? Getting sufficient vitamin D is particularly important during w

Javed Akhtar receives death threats

Image
Javed Akhtar has again found himself in a controversy and this time it’s not about the B-town but beyond. The lyricist who is known for his liberal views has caught the ire of All-India Milli Council (AIMC), All-India Sunni Jamaitul Ulema and Raza Academy. Javed Akhter recently expressed his strong views against the Deoband seminary in UP, which recently came out with a fatwa against working women. Now it’s been heard that the noted writer is receiving threat mails following his stand. It must be recalled that the All-India Milli Council (AIMC), All-India Sunni Jamaitul Ulema and Raza Academy said that women should dress according to the Islamic laws. They say, “Purdah is an integral part of Islam. Women should dress modestly and cover themselves if they have to work. It is unlawful if they work and talk to men who are strangers without wearing a veil.” Javed Akhtar strongly condemned such uncalled remarks, following which the scriptwriter was told to apologise or face

An Expert Committee has presented its recommendations for the National Film Awards to Information and Broadcasting minister Ambika Soni. New awards have been recommended in Feature and Non-Feature categories and cash prize of certain awards have been enhanced. The chairman of the Expert Committee on National Film Awards Shyam Benegal, presented the Committee’s report to Soni along with Sharmila Tagore and Rajiv Mehrotra. Also present on the occasion were I&B secretary Raghu Menon, special secretary Uday Kumar Varma, director film festival S.M. Khan and joint secretary (films) D.P. Reddy. Amongst the key recommendations of the Committee, the first relates to the constitution of the Jury. Anurag Basu’s Spanish Konnections

Image
Wonder which hottie after Barbara, Anurag Basu has fetish? It’s the ravishing Spanish bala by the name Salma Hayek. Anurag admits that he has a weakness for Spanish fair skin and says that they had auditioned about a hundred and odd girls but decided to zero in on Barbara Mori for two reasons - one she bowled over everyone by her charm and her good performance and second is the director’s liking for Spanish females. It’s tough to decide what was the deciding factor amongst the two but we are sure the choice and selection won’t go wrong as the girl is already generating lot of interest with her charms in the promos.

Sanjay Dutt to turn producer

Image
Bollywood’s Munnabhai aka Sanjay Dutt is soon going to don a new role. He is all set to take over the production duties, our birdies revealed. They brought in these titbits that the actor is planning to open a production office and even seems to have five films on hand. Incidentally, this production plans had been on the actor’s mind for a long time but things got delayed due to his work commitments and election campaigns. He has already said to have signed on five directors for his productions namely David Dhawan, Rohit Jugraj, Soham Shah, Milan Luthria and Apurva Lakhia. All these while, the actor states, that he had been putting the plans on hold for he had big budget films to work on. But now he would complete all the pending works and then adjust dates for his banner. “I have been doing three to four movies a year. From this year onward, I will reduce one outside production and start doing one of my home productions instead,” quoted Dutt to sources. As of now Sanja

Ding Dong Ding – Aaj Madhuri Ka Janam Din

Image
Her enigmatic smile makes men go weak in their knees. Her moves make girls to look upon her. Her performance is something that Bollywood screens miss today… Madhuri Dixit is one among those exceptional actresses who couldn’t be replaced by anyone. For such is her magic - unique and distinct. Think Madhuri and there are innumerable films and songs which would lit up in one’s mind. One can visualise her first hit song “ Ek Do Teen ” where she is all glitter and shine in her pink top and colourful skirt. Or her " Humko Aaj Kal Hai " song of 'Sailaab' which gives that occasional thumping beats, making you to get on the floor gradually. Then there is “ Dhak Dhak ” from ‘Beta’ that brought her the tag Dhak Dhak gal. Who can forget her hot designer blouse and toomke of “ Didi Tera Devar Deewana ” from the blockbuster film ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’? And of course, she became a sensation then with the controversial “ Choli Ke Peechhe ”song of ‘Khalnayak’

Yesterday Ms. Sherawat had been at the Cannes to attend the premiere of 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps’ that was held at the Palais des F

‘Khandahar’ restored for Cannes

Image
Reliance MediaWorks Ltd., which operates the world’s largest and most advanced restoration facilities, has restored Mrinal Sen’s award-winning film Khandahar, one of Indian cinema’s greats, that premieres in the Cannes Classic 2010 programme on 15th May, 2010. The original 1984 ‘Khandahar’ which tells the story of a city-based photographer who falls in love with a heartbroken woman living in a ruined village, had suffered from a number of material issues including bad splices, tearing, dirt, scratches, flickers, stabilization, grains, noises, splice bumps, and image warps. Similarly the film’s audio was impaired with various anomalies following years of deterioration. Before Restoration As a part of the National Film Archive of India’s initiative for digital restoration and content processing of over 1000 classic films, Reliance MediaWorks undertook a pristine restoration process for ‘Khandahar’, at its India facility, which is one of the world’s largest compreh

A Bharathiya Deepika at Cannes

Image
Yesterday the media splashed across the stills of ex-Miss World sashaying on the Cannes red carpet. On day two the 63rd Cannes Film Festival witnessed a true Indian beauty amidst the international crowd. Draped in a white and gold Rohit Bal-designed sari, Deepika Padukone turned on the temperature at the avenue. The dimpled actress had been at the fest as the brand ambassador for liquor brand Chivas Regal. She had come for the screening of the film Tournee (meaning On Tour), by director Mathieu Amalric. Said the beauty, "This is the first time I am going to a festival like this. Initially I was a bit hesitant but now I am looking forward to meet great people from all across the globe." Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had also been there for the same screening, again with Eva Longoria Parker. This time Ash had appeared in a sizzling black Armani Privé gown, with her hair tied in a bun. For the Opening Night Dinner of the fest Mallika Sherawat was there, accompani

Shahid ka Irani pyaar

Image
Our B-town handsome dudes at some point of their time would have an encounter with a crazy fan. But this fan of Shahid Kapoor has just hadh kardi (crossed limits)! Few days ago, an Iranian lady landed in Mumbai international airport. She seems have been carrying an album of Shahid’s photos and frantically asking his address to people around. Officials there sensed something wrong and approached her. But she was uncontrollable and sources claimed that when they tried to calm her down, she tore her passport in a fit of anger! After this the officials couldn’t take it any longer and handed her over to the police. The police in turn said to have informed the Iranian Embassy as the lady has no money and no passport to return to her country. Sources at Sahar Police Station believe that the lady must have seen Shahid’s latest flick and followed him to Mumbai. Phew! Hmmmm, but we feel the lady would have seen Shahid’s ‘Jab We Met’ instead, to have followed him to Mumbai just lik

Big B encourages Dhoni

Image
‘Come on Dhoni! You can do it’, well that’s not cricket fans but the iconic Big B words of encouragement to the Indian cricket team captain when the whole world is after him and his men in blue with whatever abuses, blames they have. But Amitabh Bachchan has come out in full support for MS Dhoni via his blog. He writes, “I am appalled at the way MS Dhoni has been targeted. A week ago he was the apple of your eye and within seconds, in a show smacking of frivolity, you have through deliberate and unjustifiable cut, paste technology, made him into the creator of all that ails Indian cricket.” Big B clarifies that, that doesn’t mean that he is not affected by the ouster of the Indian cricket team from T20 world cup and has come out heavily on the satellite channels for destroying the spirit of the players, he writes, “We are all very disappointed with the outcome of the T20 championships, but don't destroy the spirit of these magnificent athletes. From the early hours

Image
In this special four part feature, Joginder Tuteja would be taking readers through the 10 years journey of Hrithik Roshan which has been nothing but a roller coaster ride. Seeing early success, Hrithik saw himself starting at the bottom of the barrel before a great resurgence brought a turnaround in fortunes. Part III of this feature takes readers through a phase where forward planning by Roshans resulted in a great revival of fortunes for Hrithik Forward planning Coming from a family made of people belonging to the world of films comes with its own definite advantages and no one other than Hrithik would be able to vouch for this better. When the going wasn't good for a couple of years when all films starring Hrithik were disappointing either critically or commercially, Roshans were busy devising a plan of their own. They were not waiting for the final nail in the coffin to be set before smelling the coffee. They conceived the idea of Koi Mil Gaya and began prepara

Boman Irani is taking Guitar lessons

Image
Our dreams keep us going and fulfilling them can result in some great achievements. Bollywood is no exception to the rule, with stars going out of their way to achieve their dreams. At times this could be a little closer to home than expected. The same is the case with actor Boman Irani. Finally, being able to realize his long dwelt upon dream of learning to play the guitar, the actor has started his learning session just recently. Tweeting about this Boman says, "Off for my first Guitar lesson. One of my unfulfilled desires. Hope I take to it. Have many others. 1 at a time..." Later tweeting about his first session of jamming, Boman, the eternal entertainer quips, "Back from my 1st guitar lesson. My teacher says my fingers aren't good enough to pick my own nose!! Both my hands strum at the same time." After having done a variety of roles, the guitar lessons might just prepare Boman for a musical film. What say Mr. Irani!

Mrs Shah Rukh Khan and Mrs Hrithik Roshan; Gauri and Sussanne to those who are friends; have traveled to New York in advance to spend some of their husband's money shopping before the grand premiere of Kites at Times Square on May 16. And giving them company is Karan Johar. Trust the ever-affable Karan Johar to be the 'awed' one out. Not having learnt his lesson from the crazy Twitter-related, over-generous praise for Gurinder Chadha's It's A Wonderful Afterlife , Karan is now going all out for the Roshans and their prestigious film Kites . And this time it's not just about placing complimentary comments on social websites, Karan is currently in New York, ostensibly for a longish holiday which would've ideally ended this week. Karan has decided to stay back in New York to attend the prestigious premiere of Kites on May 16 at Times Square, just for the Roshans. In fact he was this week joined by Gauri Khan, who will be representing her star

Salman and Arbaaz's twitter-tainment from sets of Dabangg

Image
Ever since Salman Khan joined twitter, a completely different side of the star has come out in the open. Known for his hot temper all this while, Sallu's fans are now experiencing his unique sense of humour through his constant posts on twitter, especially the image posting with quirky one-liners, from sets of the film Dabangg . Brother Arbaaz Khan too is part of the action (also, credit goes to the man for bringing Salman on twitter), who posted images of Sallu posing on sets with action director Viyayan. If that was not enough, Arbaaz has put on display his cameraman Mahesh Limaye and even his film director Abhinav Kashyap, "That's my cameraman Mahesh limaye. He also did the movie FASHION with me", and "My cool, calm and composed film director Abhinav Kashyap :)" he tweets. The Khan brothers are surely doing their best to keep their fans posted on all the action happening on Dabangg sets.

The International Film Festival has been gathering steam this year with most A list celebrities flocking to the mega event. Our Bollywood folks too are not far behind and making their presence felt at the festival. However, the biggest opportunity for Indian films is the integration of the Indian pavilion at Cannes Festival. While Secretary of film and information Raghu Menon with the association of Achocam welcomed the media and foreign dignitaries, Indian delegates and the Indian ambassador in France, Ranjan Mathai, and French Director at Cannes to attend the 63rd International Film Festival at Cannes and promised to bring drastic changes in government approach to promote Indian films and filmmakers effectively to the various important film festivals. Bollwood's own Mallika Sherawat cut the ribbon while showman Subhash Ghai opened the book of producers by ministry of I & B on the inaugural day of Indian pavilion at Cannes Festival on 12th May 2010
