"bing.com" When results don't live up to promises

Image
Judging from the way the media has been covering Microsoft's new search engine, Bing.com, over the last few weeks, you'd think that we were in the middle of the biggest race for online market share since the browser wars of the early 1990s. Last week the coverage really heated up. Conflicting reports have been coming in from the companies that monitor web traffic that say Bing is and isn't chipping away at the market leader, Google, and Microsoft's announcement that it will now provide search results for recent Twitter posts has certainly grabbed people's attention. Frankly, the whole "race" has been about as exciting as watching paint dry, and at this point even the concept that Bing, which launched just four weeks ago, is already a serious threat to Google is a bit of a joke. Google is still the dominate search engine out there and will likely remain that way for the foreseeable future. The only question that matters is whether Microsoft will be able to

Pirate Bay goes legitimate with new business model

Hans Pandeya, CEO of Global Gaming Factory, announcing on Tuesday the purchase of The Pirate Bay, the popularinternet filesharing website, for 60 million kronor ($7.8 million) Los Angeles: The world's most popular source for illegal music and movie downloading is going legitimate, but it's far from certain whether customers or big media companies will embrace it. Pirate Bay, a Sweden-based website that indexes and links to millions of unauthorised copyrighted files on the internet, has agreed to be acquired by Global Gaming Factor, a Swedish operator of internet cafes, for $7.8 million (Dh28.63 million). Hans Pandeya, the chief executive of Global Gaming Factor, said in an interview that he intends to cooperate with studios and record labels to turn Pirate Bay into a copyright-friendly business that will help sell their content over the internet. But to do that, Pandeya seeks to stand the traditional seller-buyer relationship on its head. Under his plan, Global Gaming Factor wi

SKorea says North fires 7 missiles off east coast

Image
SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea fired seven ballistic missiles off its eastern coast Saturday, South Korea said, a violation of U.N. resolutions and an apparent message of defiance to the United States on its Independence Day. The launches, which came two days after North Korea fired what were believed to be four short-range cruise missiles, will likely further escalate tensions in the region as the U.S. tries to muster support for tough enforcement of the latest U.N. Security Council resolution imposed on the communist regime for its May nuclear test. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said three missiles were fired early Saturday, a fourth around noon and three more in the afternoon. The Defense Ministry said that the missiles were ballistic and are believed to have flown more than 250 miles (400 kilometers). "Our military is fully ready to counter any North Korean threats and provocations based on strong South Korea-U.S. combined defense posture," the Joint Chiefs of

A SONG BY: ANDY & BONJOVI FOR IRANIAN FREEDOM - Stand By Me with Intro

Moussavi and Mehdi Karroubi call Ahmadinejad illegitimate vow to continue fight! US downplays his role in future talks!

Before I get into that I just heard that a Canadian Iranian reporter Maziar Bahari who was missing for 9 days "supposedly" just admitted that there is a possibility that reporters instigated some of the riots but credited the Basij for breaking it up. First, this bothers me because I know it is a lie! Last week I was listening to CNN reporter who was called in and told someone wanted to talk to his. A large Burly man told him in the IRG he supposed told him they were told he was writing untrue information and had to leave. The guy told him he could stay and all would be forgotten if he would write favorable stories about the horror he was seeing. Of course he refused and had to leave immediately. This is preposterous and another lie another set up. We don't know who is doing what there. We do not know what anyone is saying. Remember Saberi? Coming from Iran state TV you know it is a lie. This so called confession was undoubtedly coerced if it is even true. We can not veri

Staff strip naked to improve morale

Image
Staff at a design and marketing company in Newcastle spent a day working together naked after being told it would improve their morale. David Taylor, a business psychologist, told workers at design and marketing onebestway, in Newcastle upon Tyne, that a Naked Friday idea would boost their team spirit. He was called in to help the firm after six staff members were forced into taking redundancies at the start of the credit crunch. Mr Taylor told them that, by stripping off their clothes, staff could also strip away inhibitions and talk to each other more openly and honestly. He said: "Inviting an organisation to go naked is the most extreme technique I've used. It may seem weird but it works. It's the ultimate expression of trust in yourself and each other." Despite some initial reluctance, nearly all the staff took off all their clothes – except for one man, who wore a posing pouch, and one of two female workers, who kept on black underwear.
