Mobile video and audio creation pros have to keep all their work backed up even when on the go and often need more transfer speed than even the best performing mobile workstations can provide. Xtore has announced a new mobile storage solution called the MobilRAID just for this type of user. Two products are available in the MobilRAID line including the MobilRAID 6Te and the MobilRAID 2Te. Both of the devices have FireWire and USB 2.0 with USB 3.0 version coming soon. The 6Te also has eSATA and offers sustained data transfer rates of up to 240MB/s and integrated RAID 6 data protection. Both of the units have an LCD screen and the 6Te is SSD ready, but ships with six 2.5-inch WD 500GB HDDs with 2TB of RAID 6 capacity. It sells for $2850 the 2Te supports RAID 0 and 1 with a pair of 3.5-inch WD 1TB HDDs and sells for $985.

Clearwire has announced a new WiFi hotspot that connects Apple devices to 4G network speeds via WiFi connectivity. The new device is called the Clear iSpot and was made exclusively for Apple gear like the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The iSpot can share its 4G connectivity with up to eight WiFi products from Apple. The download speeds are from 3Mbps to 6Mbps with the service and bursts can be up to 10Mbps. The iSpot device sells for $99.99 and the best news is that the 4G connectivity for the device is $25 monthly for unlimited data. That $25 monthly rate is month-to-month as well with no contract needed. You can connect any WiFi device to the iSpot even though it is designed with Apple gear in mind.

Hot on the heels of Logitech’s Alert CCTV system yesterday comes news of a rival platform by lesser-known camera company Y-Cam. The Y-Cam Bullet is a weatherproof, network-connected camera that works over either WiFi b/g or wired ethernet; it streams 640 x 480 30fps video with sound, as well as recording it to a local microSD card, and like Logitech the company offers iPhone and Android remote monitoring apps. Meanwhile the software bundled with the Y-Cam does a few things that Logitech demand you pay for; as well as setting up motion detection, email alerts and more, you can view live video or access saved content without paying an extra fee. If you haven’t got an iPhone or Android device, the Y-Cam can output either an MPEG4 or MJPEG feed, which should be more flexible. Twelve IR LEDs allow for low-light and nighttime viewing, and power-over-ethernet (PoE) cuts down on the cables. The Y-Cam Bullet is available now, priced at £295 ($470).

Logitech’s latest iPod and iPhone speaker dock has been unveiled, and the company reckons you’ll see up to eight hours of battery life from it – an hour, in fact, for every speaker squeezed inside. The Logitech Rechargeable Speaker S715i has a universal dock connector, IR remote control and a 3.5mm aux-in socket, and has a curvy, swoopy chassis that comes with asoft carry-case. Logitech use neodymium drivers and tweeters (two of each, along with four 2-inch passive radiators) but if you have a 3rd-gen iPod or earlier you’ll need to use the aux-in port as the dock won’t fit. $149.99 seems on the high side for a portable dock, but if the battery life predictions turn out to be accurate then frequent travellers might find the S715i appealing.

Motorola’s tablet plans with Verizon continue to gather steam, according to the FT, with the latest rumors from those “briefed on the plans” tipping a 10-inch Android based slate that would integrated with the carrier’s FiOS digital TV system. Although neither company has confirmed that the tablet is in development, it’s suggested that the slate could arrive as early as fall in the US. Other hardware details are unconfirmed, but the Motorola tablet is expected to have two cameras – for photography and video calls – together with the ability to share its 3G connection among WiFi-enabled devices in a similar way to a MiFi. Meanwhile the chassis is tipped to be thinner and lighter than Apple’s iPad, while also throwing Flash support into the mixture. Motorola is Verizon’s supplier for FiOS set-top boxes, and the potential integration with the digital TV service is being seen as a key differentiator from the expected flood of iPad rivals. Viewsonic’s tablet plans have apparently been scooped by a talkative source, with Stuff.tv claiming that the company – best known for its LCD monitors – is preparing a 7-inch Android 2.2. Froyo slate for imminent release. The unnamed tablet is expected to include GSM/UMTS connectivity, for voice calls and presumably data access as well, together with a rear-mounted camera (of either 3- or 5-megapixels). Pricing for the UK launch is tipped at between £300 and £400 ($478 to $637) with a debut predicted within a matter of two months or less. We’re guessing that price is contract-free, in which case this Viewsonic slate might make interesting competition for the Dell Streak and delayed Huawei S7. iriver’s original Story ereader actually managed to make it out of Korea and to the western markets, which is why our ears are perking up at the talk of its successor. According to the Chinese iriverFans forum, the iriver Story Touch Edition will ditch the first model’s hardware QWERTY keyboard and replace it with a touchscreen layer for the 6-inch E Ink display . There’s also 2GB of onboard storage, an SDHC card slot, stereo speakers and a microphone, together with an accelerometer for automatic screen rotation and a stylus for touchscreen control. Compatible formats include Epub, PDF,CBZ and DJVU for ebooks, MP3 OGG and WMA for music, and DOC, DOCX, PPT, XLS and XLXS Office files. No sign of any integrated wireless, which is a shame, and neither is there mention of a price or when we might expect to see the Story Touch Edition launch. It’s yet to get a mention on the iriver site.

A new unlock solution for the iPhone 4 has been released, promising to cut the ties between the Apple smartphone and AT&T (or, indeed, any other carrier the handset may be locked to). The handiwork of theiPhone Dev Team, the iPhone 4 unlock is integrated into the latest version of their ultrasn0w tool. Ultrasn0w is available through the Cydia unofficial app store, for which you’ll need a jailbroken handset in order to install and access. That can be done using JailbreakMe , a simple online interface whereby sliding a single control automatically takes your iPhone 4 through the jailbreak process. Using the micro-blogging service to tease their followers of some new, impending piece of hardware, they’ve piqued the interest of everyone who’d be interested in something “flat.” There’s no other clue than that, and the image that you see here, but from the looks of it, it would seem that Microsoft’s got a new peripheral on the way.
