Google Brings Out Desktop Notifications For Gmail

Image
There’s a reason I use gtalk and not the integrated talk in gmail – notifications. I can’t constantly keep on checking my browser to see if I have received a new mail or if someone has pinged me. It seems Google has finally decided to alleviate the sufferings of people like me. A nifty new feature in HTML5 enabled Chrome browser allows you to be notified on your desktop through pop-ups about any new mail or chat you receive. To turn this on, you simply have to click on the Settings link at the top right corner of your Gmail and scroll down to the “Desktop Notifications” section. You can customize the sort of notifications you receive – chat messages and priority or all email messages. Another new feature which I personally find very useful is the new unread messages notification. Even though the tab header has the number of unread mails, it gets lost when you open up a plethora of tabs, a thing which I usually do. The answer provided by Google is in the form of a Gmail

IT raids reveal Priyanka and Katrina's real (estate) secrets

Image
If the sudden and 'unintimated' Income Tax raids at Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif's residences came as a shock to you, then, digest this one. On one hand, while the IT tax officials must have been themselves shocked to see Shahid Kapoor in shorts at Priyanka's residence during the raid, on the other, the raid threw open some starling facts like Priyanka Chopra was reportedly seeming to have invested in properties galore! She reportedly owns 10 flats in Mumbai alone, of which 5 are at Raj Classic where she has converted three flats into one and the other two have been clubbed into another flat! On the other side, the officials who raided Katrina's residence found out that the actress has unaccounted wealth of around Rs. 6 crore in the form of jewellery, property and business ventures. Reports have it that, there were as many as 75 IT officials who sealed at least one dozen lockers and documents that belonged to Priyanka and Katrina

Big B to dye his beard, colour his hair to play Budha

Image
After retaining the same appearance for the last 11 years, the Big B has suddenly turned experimental about his looks. After happily deciding to sport a freshly-trimmed beard and new hairstyle, a la Prakash Jha for Aarakshan the Big B is going even a step further .In his next film Budha being directed by the Telugu maverick director Puri Jagannath which starts shooting next month; the Big B will dye his beard and hair into a flamboyant trendy colour! The colour is yet to be decided. According to insiders from the frantically-experimental unit, the Big B would either sport a red-tinted beard and hair. Or it could be various flamboyant colours. When contacted the director Puri Jagannath said, "That's right. Bachchan sir is going totally psychedelic for his part in Budha . You see, he plays a man who is 60 but believes he's still 25. So he moves around dressed and made up like today's youngster. And if anyone calls him a budha (old man), he i

Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji Movie Review

Image
Hindi cinema has never been short of movies which abound in humor. In fact, there's a barrage of funny films these days. Whether it's the gentle humor that keeps us smiling constantly [on the lines of Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee's films] or the incisive and sharp wit of TERE BIN LADEN, DO DOONI CHAAR and PHAS GAYE RE OBAMA or the boisterous laughathons attempted by David Dhawan, Anees Bazmee and Priyadarshan, we've enjoyed our share of laughs. But I genuinely feel that the comedy scene in Bollywood is slowly, but perceptibly changing, veering more towards realism and this is exactly what we get to watch in Madhur Bhandarkar's new outing DIL TOH BACCHA HAI JI. Okay, okay, so we associate Madhur with somber/serious cinema, tackling issues that concern us, right from CHANDNI BAR to JAIL. By now famous for his socially relevant, hard-hitting films that take potshots at the upper crust, Madhur changes tracks with this one. DIL TOH BACCHA H

"I look myself in the mirror everyday and say, 'I look good'" - Dev Anand

Image
When I meet the only evergreen hero of the Indian Film Fraternity, Dev Anand, in his Khar office, I felt that he had just walked the ramp for a Manish Malhotra show. Dressed in a crisp pink shirt with his orange jacket and a matching scarf, India's first fashion icon made me rethink of how I looked in front of him - a mere puppet. He comes across imposingly short in stature but tall in substance, sporty-lean and could probably knock both ten years off his 87 he has clocked up and anyone who messes with him when it comes to films. And all this is the result of a strict diet and his persistent passion for making cinema since the 1950s. "The real films were made in the 1950s with immense story telling technique which lacks today. I have grown up watching those Hollywood films. We have a lot to achieve", quotes Dev saab. He still likes to let his views be known. These days, Dev saab really likes to look back on his old films, one of them, Hum Dono is going t

Facebook to let advertisers republish user posts

Facebook users who check in to a store or click the "like" button for a brand may soon find those actions retransmitted on their friends' pages as a "Sponsored Story" paid for by advertisers. Currently there is no way for users to decline this feature. Facebook says this lets advertisers promote word-of-mouth recommendations that people already made on the site. They play up things people do on the site that might get lost in the mass of links, photos, status updates and other content users share on the world's largest social network. The new, promoted posts would keep the same privacy setting that the original posting had. So if you limit your check-ins to a specific group of friends, only these same friends would see the "Sponsored Story" version later. The promoted content will appear on the right side of users' home pages, not in their main news feed. That's where regular ads, friend requests and other content are located. Involving us
