Videocon Ind to add 1 mn DTH subscribers in 3 months

Videocon Industries expects to add one million direct-to-home (DTH) subscribers in the next three months, a top official said on Wednesday. The firm recently crossed the two-million-subscriber figure recently, Anil Khera, chief executive, mobile phone and D2H business, told reporters. The DTH business would take some time to break-even, he added.

Rural India’s swift digital TV embrace

Digital TV penetration in rural India is three-fold higher than in urban areas, says a report compiled by the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) on the pay TV sector. Though nearly 80 per cent of households in urban areas have television sets, more than double the 38 per cent in rural areas, the adoption of technology has been much faster in the latter. Digital TV penetration is 34 per cent in rural areas and 11.9 per cent in urban India. There were 19.4 million digital TV households as on April, of which 13.8 million were in rural areas as compared to 5.6 mn in urban areas. The findings are on the basis on a survey conducted across 250,910 households between January 2008 and April 2010. Nearly 90 per cent of the digital pay TV market was dominated by Direct-to-Home (DTH) service providers. The rest were being catered to by digital cable operators. While I love Facebook, LinkedIn, social bookmarking sites, and all others forms of new media, my personal poison of choice is Twitter. I use my Twitter account for both business and personal tweeting, which I actually prefer in most cases, though I know some people have multiple accounts to separate their professional life from their personal life. In either case, I think there’s something key that we all have to remember: Just because you can say something on Twitter doesn’t mean that you should say something on Twitter. I’m guilty of saying stuff on Twitter that I realize later paints me in a bad light or otherwise misrepresents me in some way. I think we all have had foot-in-mouth moments or get a little too personal in a moment of poor judgment. But some people make me cringe more often than not.
