Samsung files ITC complaint against Apple as legal battle rages

Image
The legal battle between Samsung and Apple is showing no signs of letting up. In fact, the legal feud is intensifying with new filings and stronger language with each new skirmish. Earlier this month, Apple filed apatent infringement suit in Korea against Samsung. As often happens in these cases Samsung turned around and field another complaint against Apple. ppppppppppP The complaint filed by Samsung was with the ITC and is complaint number 337-2824. It concerns certain product types like mobile electronics, wireless communication devices, portable music and data processing devices, and tablet computers. What Samsung is really saying is the claim is against the iPod, iPad, and iPhone. Those are all the top products for Apple and the items at the core of the legal battle. Samsung is asking for an import ban against the iPhone, iPad, and iPod. I would think Samsung is merely getting the most out of its legal team in this instance the odds of an import ban are slim. Still, the ITC has th

Velocity Micro latest to cough up Android licensing fees to Microsoft

Image
Another company using Android has agreed to cough up patent licensing fees to Microsoft, as the IP shakedown continues. Velocity Micro follows General Dynamics Itronix in settling up with Microsoft for use of unspecified mobile patents relating to its current and future Cruz Android tablets, such as the three models revealed at CES back in January. The exact terms of the deal have not been made public, nor exactly what Velocity Micro will be paying Microsoft. Still, it’s all money in the bank for the company, which is believed to make more money from royalties on Android handsets sold than it does on licensing out Windows Phone to its own OEM customers. Back in May, analysts estimated that HTC paid Microsoft $5 for every Android device it sold. At the time, it was suggested that Microsoft was chasing even higher fees – as much as $7.50 to $12.50 per device – from other Android device makers. Velocity Micro CEO Randy Copeland puts a brave face on it - ”By entering into this agreement wi

Verizon 4G LTE Galaxy Tab 10.1 up for pre-order

Image
Earlier this week the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet got a price and a launch date for WiFi and 3G versions in the UK. While the UK is getting ready for its 3G flavor of the tablet, Fans of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the US can now order a 4G LTE version of the tablet. Verizon has the tablet up for pre-order right now at a price starting from $529.99. Other than the addition of the 4G modem, the tablet is the same. It has a 10.1-inch screen, support for Adobe Flash, video catch capability thanks to a 2MP front camera and a 3MP rear camera. The camera also has a flash for taking photos in low light. The processor is a Tegra 2 offering from NVIDIA and it can be ordered with 16GB or 32GB of storage. Verizon lists the ship date at 4-6 weeks out. That is an eternity in geek years, but if you want 4G in your Tab, the wait will be worth it. You can pre-order the 16GB gray tablet for $529.99 and a 16GB white version is the same price. The 32GB grey version will cost $629.99 with the 32GB white ver

Buffalo debuts new MiniStation Plus portable storage solution

Image
Buffalo has launched a new portable storage device called the MiniStation Plus. Previously we talked about otherMiniStation storage devices and this new offering is similar. The new MiniStation Plus connects to a USB 3.0 port to offer fast storage for whatever the user needs. The storage device is compatible with USB 2.0 ports as well, but using a USB 2.0 port will reduce the performance of the drive. The Plus version of the MiniStation is inside an attractive looking lightweight and shockproof chassis. It will work with a Mac or a PC and offers data transfer speeds of up to 5Gbps thanks to the speedy USB 3.0 port. The drive is also USB powered so it needs no external AC adapter. That is great news for mobile users and for desktop users that are tight on AC outlets. The Ministation Plus will encrypt the data stored on it with 256-bit AES encryption and a password will unlock the data you store on the drive. Controlling the MiniStation Plus is done with included Buffalo Tools utility su

Fujifilm debuts small Mini 50S instant camera

Image
When I was a kid, everyone used the Polaroid instant camera. The sound of those things spitting out a photo is ingrained in my memory. Today we all use digital photos and that is ideal in most instances. However, there are times when you want a photo right then that you can share. In this instance, you may be wishing for that old school Polaroid camera. Fujifilm has announced a new camera in Canada that is called the Instax Mini 50S . The camera is a small square that has an instant print film cartridge and reminds me a lot of those old instants of my youth. The camera is only offered in shiny black and has a macro lens for close-up shots as close as 30cm. It has an intelligent flash, exposure indicator display, and brightness control to darken or lighten photos. The camera can be tripod mounted and has a shiny black finish. The little camera sells for $129.99 Canadian and has some cool touches. One of the coolest features is a button on two sides for activating the shutter allowing po

Razer Transformers collector’s edition gear isn’t more than meets the eye

Image
The gaming geeks over at Razer have been making some of the best computer peripherals like mice and keyboards for gamers for a number of years now. The company has more recently taken to releasing special edition mice rather than completely new designs. The favorite mouse to get the custom collector’s edition touch from Razer is its DeathAdder mouse. In fact, the last time we talked about the DeathAdder it was getting dressed up in Dragon Age II livery. Razer is back and that DeathAdder mouse is getting dressed up for fans of the Transformers franchise. The mice are for the tie in to the new flick that opens this week in theaters everywhere. The DeathAdder comes in both Autobot and Decepticon versions with the good guy mice in red for Optimus Prime and yellow for Bumblebee. The bad guys are in silver for Megatron and purple for the new baddies that pop out of the dust on the moon. All of the mice have the same 3.5G sensor and 3500dpi sensitivity. You can pick up any of the four designs

Researcher creates an armpit for robots complete with BO

Image
Anyone that has kids knows a lot about body odor. My kids run outside all day in the 100-degree heat and when they come in at the end of the day they often smell like puppies that rolled in dead ass. If you were going to create a more lifelike robot, I don’t think you need to go so far as to try to replicate the scent of body odor of this sort. That is exactly what Kevin Grennan is doing though. Grennan has created a robot armpit. The robot pit is really gross if we are being honest and it even has hair under it making it even more disgusting. The pit is fitted with sweat glands and can emit a chemical odor that has a specific affect on humans. For instance, a bomb disposal robot sweat gland will release the smell of human fear. I suspect that scent to be a concoction of feces, urine, and sweaty ten year old. The scent is supposedly able to increase cognitive performance. The only thing that BO makes me think about is how bad the smelly person needs a shower. The researcher also thinks

Full frontal Olympus E-PM1 spy photo turns up

Image
Olympus is set to trot out some new digital cameras tomorrow in London. The presumption is that one of the cameras to be unveiled tomorrow will be the oft leaked E-PM1 that we are talking about here. I already talked a bit about this camera back when leaked photos of the camera top controls surfaced. We don’t have a huge amount of detail on the camera at this point. The camera will launch alongside new 12mm f/2.0 and 45mm f/1.8. Other than those lenses being pegged for launch, we don’t know just a whole lot about the E-PM1 PEN camera. We do know it’s supposed to have a new image sensor and imaging engine. A new photo of the camera has now leaked that shows the thin little cam from the font. Previously we only had shots of the camera from the top. 43rumors claims that the camera will have a 12MP Olympus image sensor and a TruePic VI engine, just as the E-P3 that is expected to get official tomorrow uses. The PM1 is said to have a 10 million dot LCD on the back rather than the OLED scree

Nokia N9 photos look REALLY good

Image
I am not a Nokia fan at all. The only Nokia device I have ever owned was a free phone a carrier gave me years, and years ago with one of my first wireless plans. I am still seeing little that would talk me out of my iPhone or an Android device for a Nokia today. What I will say is Nokia knows how to make a camera phone. The camera on my iPhone sucks to the point that I only use it in a pinch and then the photos are just not very high quality. Nokia has been talking a lot about the camera module that its new N9 smartphone uses over the last few months. A week or so back we talked about Nokia boasting that the camera on the N9 was the fastest aroundand that it supported NFC image transfers. The key factoid in that claim if fastest camera is that the N9 cam can be on and ready to use in 2.9 seconds. The next closest was the iPhone 4 at about three seconds. With all the talk about how fast and high quality the camera is the thing that I and a bunch of you really want to know is how the pho

Elliptical Machine Office Desk makes you workout while you work

Image
We can be honest here we are among friends. No matter how cool your job is, work sucks. It’s a life sucking, free-time killing proposition no matter how you cut it. Some jobs are better than others, but there are still days when you just don’t want to be there. I know a bunch of people that blame their jobs for their weight issues. Hammacher Schlemmer has a new desk that gives you no excuse to be fat and pasty even if your job keeps you chained to a desk all day. The desk setup is called The Elliptical machine Office Desk. The system includes a desk that has an adjustable height with some slots for mounting monitors to the desk so they can move up and down easily. The key part though is the semi-recumbent elliptical trainer chair. The thing is built to operate at slower speeds so the user can pedal away and not be too distracted. Hammacher claims the user can burn about 4,000 calories in a typical workweek. The desk can adjust from 27″ to 47″ to accommodate the elliptical trainer, a no

Shift away from landlines continues

Image
Everyone I know has a mobile phone of some sort. Even my grandmother and mom have one, even though they rarely answer the phones. When it comes to the segment of the population most likely to have and use smartphones it’s the younger and tech savvy that are most often leaving the landline behind for mobile phones only. The latest FCC wireless communications report has been published and sheds a bit of light on the number of users leaving landlines behind. Right now 24.9% of all Americans have no landline phone and use a wireless phone exclusively. I have been in this group for nearly seven years now and haven’t missed a landline yet. Among the younger users 25 to 29 years old, the percentage of users with wireless phones only is nearly twice the US average. This is the most impressive number from the report. The US has 308 million people living in the country and 274 million of that number are subscribed to a wireless plan. I would love to know the percentage of young children in the p

Windows Phone is first platform to get AmazonFresh app for grocery shopping

Image
This app is sort of interesting, but the concept is certainly not new. There have been online grocery shopping services before and they have all eventually gone under. Amazon is trying the online grocery thing out again and looking to get the service onto smartens with a new app. You might think that the place to start would be to make the app for the iPhone or Android smartphones. Amazon has chosen Windows Phone as the place to start with the AmazonFresh app. AmazonFresh is the name of the Amazon grocery shopping service. This actually makes sense when you realize that the grocery delivery service is only in Seattle right now. Seattle is home to Microsoft and you can bet that compared to other areas there is a huge number of Windows Phone devices being used in Seattle. Microsoft has 40,000 employees in the area. That is about half the population of my entire city. Just in case a bunch of the people in the area are using the iPhone, the mobile site for AmazonFresh is iPhone optimized.

Long preview video of Nokia N950 lands from Thai developer

Image
If you are a Nokia fan and have been looking forward to the N950 packing MeeGo and a lot more a new video has landed that you might be interested in. The video has a developer showing off the handset and talking about the features and operation (presumably). I say presumably because the video is in Thai and I have no idea what the person is actually saying. All we do know is that the smartphone is handled on the video and you can see what the thing is about even if we can’t understand the language. You can watch the video to see the smartphone in action. Thankfully, we already know a lot about the phone including specificaitons. We know it has a 4-inch TFT LCD and a physical QWERTY keyboard under the screen. The screen also angles when open like a little netbook to let you see more comfortably while typing. The N950 uses a 1GHz processor and a PowerVX SGX530 for graphics. The N9 uses these same parts. Power comes from a 1320 mAh battery and the N950 gets Bluetooth 2.1. Nokia has mainta

Are soldiers testing night vision contact lenses?

Image
This is a cool thing to me. If you watch any movies with a military theme or any of the discovery type programming centering on military themes you have, seen night vision goggles before. The things clip on to the helmet of the solider and they flip them up or down to control when they need to see in the dark and when normal vision will do. The goggles look to be very bulky and uncomfortable and cut down on peripheral vision too. The biggest military raid in recent memory was the one that resulted in the death of Bin Laden. A rumor has been circulating this month that the special ops soldiers in that raid may have had night vision that didn’t use those bulky goggles. According to this rumor, the soldiers may have been using night vision contacts. The military has certainly not confirmed the existence of these contacts and there seems to be a few issues with the concept to me. The big issue is if you have contacts in your eyes providing night vision and someone turns on the lights, what

“A Juicy Surprise for Tomorrow” says Microsoft’s Sr. Director of Communications for Windows Phone

Image
If you are a big fan of Windows Phone 7 today is an important day for you with some really cool apps finally landing for the platform. WinPo 7 is finally getting some of the apps that other smartphone platforms have been enjoying for a long time now. Perhaps the most important of them is Angry Birds, which is now available for Windows Phone. Angry Birds is “the app” for many mobile phone users and Android fans have been known to buy handsets based on whether it will play that game or not. Along with Angry Birds a bunch of other new apps are landing for Windows Phone 7 users. The other apps that are available now include Epicurious, Eventful, Dictionary.com, Kik, and GoWalla. This information all came from a tweet by Bill Cox, Microsoft’s Senior Director of Communications for Windows Phone. Cox also offered up a tease for tomorrow in the tweet. Cox taunted that “a juicy surprise for tomorrow” was coming. I wonder what that surprise will be. What do you think might be coming? Do you thin

Optimus Mini Six hits production; Popularis delayed (again)

Image
Art Lebedev’s Optimus Project studios promised that the Mini Six companion keyboard – a compact accessory with six buttons each integrating a user-customizable display – would be here later on in 2011, and now the company has confirmed that it’s in the early production stage. In effect a doubled version of the Mini Three, the Mini Six does differ in that it uses new, more compact LCD displays for its keys. Those displays, thanks to the relentless march of panel technology, mean Optimus can fit a 64 x 64 pixel screen into a smaller housing than in previous products. On full-sized keyboard that will mean easier typing and more compact form-factors, though for the Mini Six it will really just mean that the overall housing is smaller and your full-color icons are smoother and crisper. As for the Optimus Popularis, the successor to the original Optimus Maximus – which had OLED keys and a massive price tag – that has been delayed again, and will apparently arrive in 2012. The company previou

Adobe courts grumpy Final Cut Pro X users with switch endorsements

Image
Adobe has gone on the charm offensive with dissatisfied Apple Final Cut Pro X users, attempting to persuade them to jump ship from the allegedly “dumbed-down” video editing package to its own Premiere Pro software. The company has pushed out a number of videos and profiles highlighting previous switchers – and the success they’ve had since – as well as tutorials showing how straightforward it can be to make the jump from Final Cut Pro. Final Cut Pro X was released last week after much anticipation from video editors. However, that excitement turned, in some cases, to disappointment, with complaints that the software lacked backward compatibility with projects created in older versions, as well as some of the previously standard features they had come to rely on. In response, Apple has begun offering special refunds to users wanting to step back to previous versions. That still leaves those editors looking at what path they want to take with their video software, and despite claims of s

Windows Phone Tango update tipped before WP8 Apollo in late 2012

Image
The successor to Windows Phone 7.1 Mango has been named, with reports out of Taiwan claiming that Microsoft is readying an update codenamed “Tango.” According to DigiTimes ‘ supply chain sources, Microsoft is already signing licensing agreements with OEMs for use of Tango; Compal is name-checked as one such licensee, with the manufacturer already tipped to produce Nokia’s first Windows Phone models , as well as Acer’s, later in 2011. Interestingly, while Nokia was expected to shift to in-house production of Windows Phone hardware in 2012, only using Compal to get the initial handsets out of the door, the talk in Taipei is of ODM orders with Compal only increasing over that period. However, that’s based on Nokia reducing its R&D budget, something the company has already told us will predominantly come from phasing out Symbian and slimming MeeGo development. In fact, there will be increased investment in low-cost chipsets. Now, a name doesn’t exactly tell you what you can expect i

Toshiba Thrive Gets Cool Video Plus Giveaway Contest

Image
The Toshiba Thrive was announced back at CES and it has taken its time to work out any kinks and find a good price range before hitting the market. Pre-orders for the tablet have just recently begun with a release scheduled for mid-July. As part of the promotions leading up to the launch, Toshiba has unleashed a neat little unboxing video full of special effects and also created giveaway contest for a free limited edition Thrive. The Toshiba Thrive is a 10.1-inch tablet running Android 3.1 Honeycomb with an NVIDIA 1GHz Tegra 2 dual-core processor, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The tablet will also feature a special haptic display, lock-screen button, pre-installed Swype keyboard UI, a Resolution Plus software for upscaling video content, and a removable battery rated for up to seven hours. It also supports Wi-Fi, HDMI, Bluetooth, and full-sized SD card slot. The tablet was rumored early on to have a $700 price tag, but seeing how the Motorola

T-Mobile Samsung Exhibit 4G Hands-On and Unboxing

Image
What I’ve had the pleasure of working with today is a neat new phone for T-Mobile called the Samsung Exhibit 4G. We have mentioned this device in the past but today we have a little hands-on time to show you this little thing of joy. Apparently I’m colorblind and call it pink in the video but it’s more of a purple-violet color. What Samsung has delivered is a great mid-range Android phone for those that don’t need the best and today I’ll show you why. The phone is short and sweet so I’ll keep this unboxing the same and save the goods for the full review coming soon. The Samsung Exhibit 4G is actually probably one of the better mid-range phones I’ve felt and used as of late. When I say mid-range I mean mid/high-range because this seems about as close as you can get to a top tier device without breaking the bank. I was more impressed than I thought I’d be. Its biggest feature in my book is that it runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, YES I said Gingerbread. It does have the Samsung Touch Wiz UI

HP Offers $50 TouchPad Mail-In Rebate For Pre And Pixi Owners

Image
HP may be trying to make up for the upset they caused when they denied over-the-air updates for customers of older Pre, Pre Plus, Pixi, and Pixi Plus phones. Back in February when the company introduced webOS 3.0, they confirmed that phones older than the Pre 3 could not be upgraded. So now, it appears as a form of apology, HP is offering Pre and Pixi owners a special $50 mail-in rebate on the upcoming HP TouchPad tablet. For some, that may suffice, but the majority of webOS loyals may see the gesture as very half-hearted. First of all, the offer only applies to the 32GB TouchPad model that retails for $599. For those that had no plans to purchase the 32GB model, the offer is pretty meaningless. Secondly, since the original problem meant that Pre and Pixi owners essentially had outdated phones, a rebate or discount on a future phone would make more sense. In order to take advantage of the offer, you will have to present proof of purchase for one of the specified phones and make the Tou

T-Mobile Nexus S Finally Gets Google Talk Video Chat Over 3G/4G

Image
Google Talk and Apple FaceTime both offer nice video calling services, but they differ in that FaceTime requires a Wi-Fi connection to work. Google’s offering was more ideal, but it didn’t quite pan out for T-Mobile customers. Since its launch back in May, Nexus S owners with the carrier have not been able to video chat over the cellular network. Well, that has changed today. The video chat feature was first introduced in May for Android 2.3.4 devices, which meant the Google Nexus S. Owners of the device on the WiMAX network had no problem using the feature on their cellular networks, but for unspecified reasons, the service would not work on T-Mobile. T-Mobile Nexus S owners still had to rely on a Wi-Fi network in order to video chat. Today, T-Mobile seems to have finally enabled the PSP mode needed for Google Talk’s video chat service to work over the carrier’s cellular network. It’s not clear what the original problem was, but after a month’s delay, the service is finally now workin

What Google+, Circles, Sparks, and Huddle will Mean for Me and You

Image
Dear Google, you’ve been ever so kind in allowing me to keep all of my stuff in one place with Gmail. I had a tough time trusting you back when Gmail became a reality and I was so used to using my PC computer and the horrifyingly ancient desktop-based email client therein. But I learned, I learned quite well, and now I know that you are the true holders of all the keys. Today you’ve announced a program called Google+, this encapsulating several elements including Circles and Huddle as well. It’s a social networking web of ideas and elements that’s set to change the way we work with Google and with each other – will you ensnare me again? What we’ve come to understand can all be found in a post made earlier today here on SlashGear entitledSlashGear 101: What is Google+, Circles, Huddle? It is in our series of SlashGear 101 posts that you’re invited to learn about the most important and/or most odd elements in play in our modern electronic, tech, and gadget universe, aka all of the stuff

Google Swiffy Transforms Flash Into HTML 5

Image
Google Labs released an experimental web app today called Swiffy that lets developers convert Adobe Flash SWF files to HTML 5. Apple is well known for not supporting Flash in favor of HTML 5, which has made Flash content inaccessible to iOS users. This move by Google is a bit surprising since the search giant has a deal with Adobe to support Flash and even offer the plugin preloaded with its Chrome OS. Flash files converted to HTML 5 using Swiffy will work on all Webkit browsers such as Chrome and Mobile Safari. It’s not certain why Google is providing this solution for developers when their platform fully supports Flash, but it’s said that Google engineer Pieter Senster spearheaded the project to address incompatibility issues of Flash-based mobile ads with iOS. However, by offering an easy way to convert, developers are more likely to post HTML 5 versions rather than Flash in order to be accessible via iOS. This may work against Flash, but at this point only certain SWF files that in

BlackBerry Playbook 10-Inch Version Axed?

Image
The BlackBerry Playbook was rumored to have a 10-inch version arriving later this year in time for the holiday season. But now, new insider tips say that RIM may be axing those plans to refocus efforts back on their QNX-based “superphone.” This news comes just shortly after RIM’s disappointing earnings call and layoffs. RIM is in the process of transitioning to a new QNX platform and have had a “superphone” in the works. However, in an attempt to rush out the Playbook tablet to compete with Apple’s iPad, the company had to divert its engineers to focus on tablet development, which may have led to the ensuing delays in its smartphones. Canceling the 10-inch Playbook in order to focus on their next smartphone offering may be a wise choice, although opinions are mixed on whether the larger screen might be better than the current 7-inch model. Either way, with iOS and Android still in the lead and even the Windows Phone platform generating excitement, RIM needs something different if it do

Archos 35 Home Connect & Smart Home Phone hands-on

Image
The two new Android 3.1 Honeycomb tablets aren’t Archos’ only new products to use Google’s open-source OS; the company also has the somewhat more unusual Archos 35 Home Connect and the companion Smart Home Phone, a chumby-style internet radio and a DECT cordless home phone. Announced last week, we rolled up our sleeves and had a fondle of them today. Android was always intended to find its way into more than just smartphones and tablets, and Archos has taken Google’s advice. The Archos 35 is a compact, lightweight touchscreen radio, with stereo speakers and a 3.5-inch color display, offering both local playback of photos, music and video – there’s 4GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot to boost the total up to 20GB – as well as 50,000 streaming radio stations courtesy of the TuneIn app. Build quality is a little on the plasticky side, but the benefit is that it’s surprisingly lightweight despite the integrated battery. Ports include a 3.5mm headphone socket and microUSB port f

Archos 80 G9 and 101 G9 Tablets hands-on [Video]

Image
With the iPad dominant in both market- and mind-share, it takes something special to distract from Apple’s all-conquering slate. Archos reckons it has the answer with the 80 G9 and 101 G9 tablets, a pair of low-cost models announced last week and priced from just $279 despite a 1.5GHz TI dual-core OMAP4 processor. SlashGear grabbed some hands-on time with the two slates today, to see if they lived up to their lofty aspirations. Based on specs alone, you can easily see why the Archos tablets have would-be tableteers excited. The Archos 80 G9 has an 8-inch 4:3 aspect 1024 x 768 display while the Archos 101 G9 has a 10.1-inch 16:9 aspect 1280 x 800 display; both use capacitive touchscreens, run Android 3.1 Honeycomb, pack WiFi and can be fitted with an optional pre-paid 3G USB data stick in a special niche on the back. Archos have some impressive claims about their TI OMAP4 processor, suggesting it’s 50-percent faster than theTegra 2 more commonly found inside Honeycomb slates. Unfortunat

MySpace Heads To The Bargain Bin, Low $20-30M Bids

Image
Ever since Facebook began picking up steam, MySpace steadily shrunk in popularity. Almost 50 percent of the MySpace staff have recently been laid off and now the site is up for sale. News Corp purchased MySpace back in 2005 for a whopping $600 million, but the latest bids for the site are coming in between only $20 to $30 million. MySpace was one of the most popular social platforms back in the mid 2000′s. However, over the years it was impacted by negative news of sex-offenders on the platform giving it a reputation as being a pervert haven. As Facebook leaped ahead, MySpace had to re-focus as a music and entertainment oriented social network, but has continued to lose money. News Corp. is said to be closing a deal by this week and has so far had at least two bidders—Specific Media and Golden Gate Captial. Both bidders are lesser known with Specific Media being an advertising network and Golden Gate Capital being a private equity firm. Both buyers intend to continue MySpace as a socia

Ms. Splosion Man Releasing Early on July 13th!

Image
Joy un-2 the new year! We’re getting Ms. Splosion Man earlier than we expected! This game which we’ve scantly spoken of since back in December was originally slated for sometime in the Fall of 2011. Now we’ve got word that it’s coming out in July – what a winner! This game, as it was originally noted to be, will come out on Xbox 360′s Xbox Live Arcade and is the direct sequel to the 2009 classic Splosion Man – get ready to Splode! What you’ve got here is a game where you’re supposed to free Splosion Man from the grips of the scientists at Big Science. They’re utterly enamored with the idea of stopping him from sploding all of their machinery, so they’ve trapped him in the box. Of course once they started to celebrate their victory over splosions, they began to drink some bubbly – and what do you know? Chaos ensued. The birth of Ms. Splosion man had happened and the Splosion Man we all know and love was made in a lady version – complete with lipstick and a bow. Now we’ve got word that t

Apple Issues Refunds After Final Cut Pro X Complaints

Image
When Apple first previewed the next-gen flagship film editing software, Final Cut Pro X, back in April, it was touted as a “jaw-dropping” completely revamped 64-bit masterpiece. And, all for an amazing never before seen low price. However, since its debut last week , loyal users that went for the upgrade have indeed jaw-dropped but not in a good way. Luckily, many that complained were able to get refunds, something not typical of Mac App Store sales. The new Final Cut Pro X quickly became one of the top selling apps being sold exclusively in the Mac App Store. But, its over one thousand ratings are mostly one star. The software has had many of its pro features stripped away and isn’t backwards compatible, meaning movie projects made in the prior version cannot be opened. The Mac App Store’s policies usually make all sales final, but it looks like Apple is hearing the complaints loud and clear. Many upset customers filed requests through a customer service form and were able to get ref

4G LTE iPhone 5 and iPad 3 Hinted in LulzSec Leak

Image
So you remember that End of 50 Days letter the good fellas of LulzSec sent out yesterday? Turns out one of the files they leaked, the AT&T one to be exact, may well align some numbers to point to an AT&T 4G LTE release of both the iPhone 5 and the iPad 3, both of them in August or September of this year, 2011. Sounds pretty raw! What we’re seeing here is a bit of older news on how AT&T plans on rolling out tiered pricing for their upcoming LTE rollout. It’s the date of this proposed “migration” that has us double-looking. If you’ll look back at history, there’s quite the line of suggestions suggesting that the iPhone 5 OR the “iPhone 4S” will be released in August or September. First there’s one for iPhone 5 in September from April 20th, another from June 27th saying iPhone 4S AND iPhone 5 are coming in Q3, another for LTE in 2012, iPhone 4S in September from May 18th. Then there’s a June 13th post about a September launch for the “next iPhone,” one for the iPhone 5 coming

iPhone 4S In September, No iPhone 5?

Image
Industry analyst predictions for the next-gen iPhone have been all over the place. Rumors initially pointed to aniPhone 5 coming in September, however, later evidence suggested that only a minor upgrade dubbed the iPhone 4S. Soon, insider tips suggested both phones to be on their way. But once again, the winds have changed and now possibly only the iPhone 4S will show up this fall. According to BMO Capital analyst Keith Bachman, not only are early rumors of an iPhone mini false, but also any plans for an iPhone 5 this September. In a note to investors, Bachman insists that Apple will only be offering a modest upgrade in specs packed into the current iPhone 4 form factor. He even dropped iPhone shipment estimates for the quarter from 18 million down to 17 million.
