Golimaar shooting disrupted

Image
Pro-Telangana activists disrupted the shooting of producer-director Puri Jagannath's upcoming Gopichand starrer Golimaar at Rytu Bazar in Kukatpally, Hyderabad on Monday. The protesters, led by local Telangana United Front leaders, surrounded the unit and raised slogans against actor Roja, accusing her of working against the Telangana agitation and asked her to leave the place. As the agitators refused to listen to the unit members trying to pacify them, director Puri Jagannath and actors Roja and Priyamani were forced to stop shooting. The Kukatpally police rushed to the place and asked the film unit team to vacate the place as they did not secure permission for shooting. Produced by the director himself under the banner of Vaishno Academy, Golimaar will grace screens in April 2010.

If sources are to be believed, Aasal is about mistaken identities; Ajith plays a double role. The movie is expected to be a visual treat as most the film was shot in France. Kajal not heading for Bollywood

Image
Lots of our gals have packed their bags and flown off to Mumbai, some with Hindi movie contracts and some in the hope they will soon sign one. Kajal Aggarwal, whose acting career is gradually rising down South, was also rumoured to have been heading to B-town, but she has denied these rumours, but not the desire to work there of course! Kajal, who met with immense success in Telugudom, thanks to the stupendous success of Magadheera opposite Ramcharan Teja, is now starring in another Telugu movie, this time alongside Junior NTR. Tamil movie offers are also pouring after her glam stint in Modhi Vilayadu and the actress is picking her way through them all. In the wake of such demand down South rumours that Magadheera is to be remade in Hindi and that she has agreed to reprise her role in the movie, have been circulating. The actress revealed she has not been approached to star in the remake but will be more than happy to do so.

Sudeep on high after Rann

Image
Kannada star Sudeep is on a high, especially after the release of his Bollywood film Rann where he shares screen space with biggies Amitabh Bachchan and Paresh Rawal. The actor has been praised for his wonderful performance ever since the release of RGV's Rann. Not every actor gets a chance to work with RGV in their first two projects, but this Sandalwood star has made it. Sudeep plays the role of Jai Malik, son of a media tycoon played by Amitabh Bachchan in the film. Kiccha Sudeep, as he is fondly known, is currently gearing up for the release of his directorial venture Just Maat Maathalli, where he is paired opposite Ramya.

Mollywood controlled by some: Thilakan

Image
Malayalam thespian Thilakan is extremely angry with the two film organisations and a superstar for denying him an opportunity to act in director Joshi's multi-starrer Christian Brothers. (Thilakan was to play Mohanlal's father in the film, but was dropped recently due to some unknown reasons.) Talking to a news channel about his removal from the film, the actor said: Producer Subair came and paid me the advance and took 25 days from me in November last year. But later, he called me and said 'they' are opposed to my acting in the film, because the superstar has said that it is a prestige issue for him. The Malayalam industry is now controlled by a mafia which consists of a superstar and a few from the two film bodies (FEFKA and AMMA). Many fear being sidelined and are silent. I am not going to be silent; I will fight against this gross injustice. You wait and see. They are trying to take vengeance against me because I acted in a film directed by Vinayan, who was against

Simbu's 25th birthday bash

Image
Simbu's all grown-up now, and yet we just cannot forget him grooving to ‘I am a little star, aaveney super star!' Well, he is on the way to becoming just that; with the change from Little Super Star to Young Super Star, the next step is obviously Super star, right? He sure hopes so and we wish him lots of luck. Notorious as he is, we cannot do without Simbu and the best part is he seems to have outgrown those bad boy pranks! Simbu in his latest avatar is quite the nice guy who probably has been misunderstood all along. We'll leave what was behind and join the festivities as he celebrates his 25th birthday on 3rd February. He's throwing a big party at Fisherman's Cove and has invited only his nearest and dearest buddies, but let us all join in heart and wish Simbu all the very best. Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, his first movie this year [releasing shortly], has all the makings of a super hit. Let's hope this movie and all the others to follow will create wonders at t

Grand Maratha Riteish Tutors Sri Lankan Babe

Image
It's a linguistic twist in the tale. Jacqueline Fernandez and Riteish Deshmukh seem to be harbouring a rather strong fondness for each other…that's translating into a new language! The gorgeous gal from Sri Lanka and the ex Chief Minister's scion are cast together in 'Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai'. And since Ms F plans to make Mumbai her base, RD isn't wasting any precious moments. He's tutoring her closely (hah, take the clue) in Hindi.. and what's better, he's got the winsome babe to muster up some Marathi too! Guess, the language of love will follow…..

Anurag's 36 hour DVD Drama!

Image
Anurag Kashyap returned from a trip from London to Mumbai.. and got embroiled in a 36 hour nightmare! The 'Dev D' director had come back stacked with loads of DVDs… all legally purchased! "I dutifully went through the red channel and declared all the DVDs," reveals Kashyap in a tabloid chat, "I agreed to pay duty though I've been bringing DVDs from England on each trip and I've never had to pay duty before. I told the Customs officials that I would come back the next day and pay up since I didn't have the cash in hand at that time." However, he was shell shocked when the Customs officials not only refused to return his DVDs, they confiscated his luggage too! An embittered Kashyap pulled all the right strings, and got back his possessions… but with a clause. "I had to give a written undertaking that each of the DVDs brought by me was neither pirated nor pornographic." says an exasperated Kashyap. "I live and die for my DVDs. They a

Brit Talk For Crooked Kangna Ranaut

Image
The accent from Himachal Pradesh will now acquire a British twang! And Kangna Ranaut will simply turn a wee more 'Crooked'. Reportedly, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has opted out of the Abhinay Deo helmed venture and Kool Kangy will now essay the UK based undercover cop in the movie. With barely a week to cram in any preparation, Kangy is at her wit's end. She has to manage a propah Brit accent, besides learning to deliver swift kicks and moves in keeping with her athletic character in 'Crooked'. "I accommodated the film at a very short notice," confesses Kangna in a tabloid quote. "My role in 'Crooked' is something that I have never done before. Very intense, agile and free of glamour." Quite a punch!

Shahid Kapoor and Kareena kapoor gonna be "framed"!

Image
Two former lovers are gonna be "framed"! Heyyyy, but it's not going to be the nefarious handiwork of some stalker/ blackmailer/ obsessive fan/ goon / whatever….Rather, the duo of Shahid Kapoor and Bebo will face the sharp gaze of the camera eye, once again, for the much delayed 'Milenge Milenge.' Heavily "inspired" by the 2001 Hollywood hit 'Serendipity', Boney Kapoor 's flick has been languishing in the cans for quite a few years. Buzz is that director Satish Kaushik and Kapoor will film a new beginning for their movie. Besides, they are all set to can a new music video as a promotional measure for their 'Milenge Milenge' showcasing the two Kapoors, who don't so much as exchange a glance or word! Apparently, the warring twosome had no qualms, being the topline professionals that they are. A close insider declares," Didn't they shoot the 'Mauja Hi Mauja' song number for 'Jab We Met' right after their spl

Reality shows no key to Bollywood projects: Aditya Jassi

Budding singer Aditya Jassi, who was once a part of the music show 'Fame X', says reality shows are not the key to Bollywood. He feels hard work and luck are more important. 'There is no shortcut to success. A reality show alone cannot guarantee you songs in films. Luck plays a very important role and so does hard work. A reality show brings you closer to people but it doesn't help you break into Bollywood,' Jassi told IANS. 'Getting a chance to sing in films requires a lot of running around and a lot of struggle. It's not easy,' he added. Jassi, who has crooned Bollywood songs like 'Tension lena ka nahi' ('Jugaad') and 'Utha le ya phek de' ('Dil Kabaddi'), is in talks with composers like Pritam Chakraborty and Shankar Mahadevan for their upcoming projects. He has also crooned a song in the crossover film 'Bollywood Beats'. Jassi revealed that even though he had his share of tough times, he was

Big B impressed by Vishal Bhardwaj's movies

There are many filmmakers who are keen to sign Amitabh Bachchan for their projects, but the megastar is impressed with none other than Vishal Bhardwaj and says they may work together in future. 'What a range of subjects he (Vishal) puts forth with innocent ease of reference. His exuberance for 'Paa' and the desire on both our parts to work together in the not too distant future, vibes well,' Big B wrote on his blog bigb.bigadda.com. Bhardwaj has made films like 'Makadee', 'Maqbool', 'The Blue Umbrella ', 'Omkara' and 'Kaminey'.

What made Sunny Deol sweat in Delhi's winter?

Bollywood actor Sunny Deol literally sweated it out in the capital's winter. No, it wasn't due to global warming, but because fans had swamped him here Tuesday. Dressed in a blue jeans, red jacket and sporting a stubble, Sunny almost got crushed in a stampede by fans and media. The actor, who was last seen in dud 'Fox' (2009), had to shift spots for breathers before giving bytes to the journalists and photo and autograph opportunities to fans. 'It was just too many people around and was getting hot in there. Mumbai is also very hot but it was just not well kept and not a little balanced,' Sunny told IANS, while sitting near a balcony for fresh air. The actor-turned-filmmaker was in Delhi to launch the third gym under the health club chain - Club Fitline. Apart from being its brand ambassador, he is also on the board of directors of the chain.

Leonardo Da Vinci's grave to be dug up?

Italian artist Leonardo Da Vinci's body could be exhumed in France if Italian scholars get their way. Scientists hope their controversial plans to dig up the artist, who died in 1519, and carry out DNA tests on his remains will help them solve a series of mysteries Da Vinci took to his grave, reported imdb.com. These include how he died and whether or not the remains are indeed those of the Italian master. The Italians are lobbying French officials to gain permission to excavate Da Vinci at Amboise Castle, Amboise, France.

American director's Hindi film nominated for Oscar

American director Gregg Helvey's Hindi film 'Kavi', which deals with the issue of child labour, has been nominated in the Short Film (Live Action) category at the upcoming 82nd annual Academy Awards. The film, produced by Guneet Monga, Harish Amin and Helvey, was filmed entirely in Wai, near Mumbai. It tells the story of a young boy who wants to play cricket and go to school, but is forced to work in a brick kiln. 'We are extremely happy and would like to thank each and every person who has put in his or her efforts into this project. We had celebrated when we won the Student Oscar for 'Kavi' and that is just what we are planning right now,' Monga told IANS over phone from Mumbai. Helvey, who was a student of the University of South California, came to India without enough finances to produce the film. The film has been subtitled in English and won various awards at international festivals. Made at a shoestring budget of just over $30,000 (Rs.1.4

Shiv Sena keeps up offensive, Shah Rukh defiant

The Shiv Sena was on collision course Tuesday, taking on Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan . The actor, who was in New York, said he would 'stand up' for his comment on the exclusion of Pakistani cricketers from the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Shiv Sena said if Shah Rukh failed to apologise for his statement, his next big release 'My Name Is Khan' could be banned in Mumbai. 'Shah Rukh Khan must withdraw his comments if he wants his new film to be released in Mumbai,' senior party leader Manohar Joshi, a former speaker of the Lok Sabha, told mediapersons in Mumbai this afternoon. He also warned that all Shah Rukh's films could face a ban in the city if he failed to tender an apology. Shah Rukh, who owns the Kolkata Knight Riders team of IPL, had spoken against the exclusion of Pakistani cricketers from the forthcoming tournament. The Shiv Sena also fired a salvo at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Tues

A special presentation by screenwriter Amole Gupte of Aamir Khan 's superhit film 'Taare Zameen Par' will take place at the Unesco headquarters in Paris Feb 3. The Unesco is hosting its first-ever World Dyslexia Forum Feb 3-5 and the first day will witness a special presentation of the film that revolves around a boy suffering from dyslexia. 'The presentation will reveal the years of systematic research that wove science into the art of story-telling to create a film that took critics and the box-office in India by storm when it was released two years ago,' says a statement issued by the organisation. 'With Disney now distributing the DVD of the film worldwide, it is hoped that the sensitive portrayal of the travails of a young boy with dyslexia will find a much wider audience and provide deeper insight into the effects of this complexed disorder,' it says. 'Taare Zameen Par' released in 2007 was directed by Aamir and starred child actor

Thilakan Sunday lashed out at both Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) and Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) and also a superstar for denying him an opportunity to act in the new film 'Christian Brothers'. Money, Nah!: Nana, Shahid's Free Study!

Image
He's been lauded as an "eccentric genius," and several filmmakers confess (purely off record, that he's "quite mad!"). Though, there's little disputing that exists a healthy, philanthropic side to the actor. Nana Patekar 's short fuse generates racy copy for tabloids, but most are now becoming aware that he's a great Samaritan, at heart. Incidentally, Patekar refused to accept any fee for Eros International's 'Paathshaala.' Instead, he insisted that producer Shaira Khan donate the amount to a few charitable trusts that the actor has been involved with. Confirming the news, producer Shaira Khan says, "Initially, he told us that we should make five cheques to cover his fee for the project. But when it was time to actually hand them over to him, he took us by surprise. He told us to issue the cheques in the names of the charitable organisations. There is so much hearsay about Nana Patekar and the kind of person he is. But any such t

Kat Calls: Femina 50 Most Beautiful!

Image
Her pristine looks have earned her reams of newsprint and she's been variously described as "India's sexiest woman." And now, Katrina Kaif , has sashayed into yet another elite list: Femina 50 Most Beautiful Women. Speaking on the occasion, Kaif, looking a zillion dollars (as usual) remarked, "In my profession, we have to look great all the time, with perfect make up and great hair. But it's not as if all days are perfect. I do have days when I'm not looking my best. So everyday is a challenge for me too. Beauty, though, comes from within. I'm sure that there are many women in real life who are as glamorous as film stars, and they can shine through on the strength of their personality. Beauty comes through in the manner in which a woman carries herself."

Aadmi Hoon Aadmi Sey Pyaar…

Madhur Bhandarkar blew the lid off it rather forcefully. He canned a love making scene between two males in 'Page 3'. His prison centric flick 'Jail' suggested a fleeting scene where one male prisoner performs oral sex on another. In the commercial circuit too 'Dostana', illumined Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham who pretend to be gay lovers in order to rent a plush apartment as paying guests. Girl loves boy is great as traditional fare in cinema. But man loves man… is no longer being shoved under the cine carpet. Male actors, ready to be in the buff (Neil Nitin Mukesh in 'Jail') and show a shapely butt (John Abraham in 'Dostana') are giving leading men a new dimension! And male actors only seem to be getting bolder onscreen. Maradona Rebello will be spotted only in his birthday suit in….. And if you thought that was tepid… here's more. Men will now make love to males on celluloid. Case in point: 'Dunno Y… Na Jaane Kyon..' highli

Rahmania : Golden Grammys For 'Millionaire' Composer!

A channel byte showcased Gulzar gushing differently. "I told him not to make a habit of getting twins!" remarked the Oscar winning lyricist of 'Slumdog Millionaire'." Rahman has already won two Oscars for 'Slumdog… and now he has also bagged two Grammys for Danny Boyle's film. I told him to be careful." (laughs) India twirled tunefully under the spotlight once again, and an elated A R Rahman was beside himself with joy. "This is insane…. God is great again!" remarked the Mozart of Music as he strode onstage the esteemed dais of the Grammys at Los Angeles to win his duo of golden honours. His double triumph of Grammys ('Best compilation soundtrack for a motion picture category','Best Motion Picture Song Category') has melodiously put India on the global map. "I can safely say that the next rockstar after Michael Jackson and 'The Beatles,' will be Rahman from India," remarked Oscar winner Resul Pookutty in a

I love Satyajit Ray films: Brian Cox

Scottish actor-director Brian Cox says he is a great fan of India's legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray and that 'Pather Panchali' is his favourite film. Ash unsure about 'Laawaris' number in 'Houseful'

Rumours were rife that Aishwarya Rai will dance to the tunes of hit number 'Apni toh jaise taise', which was originally picturised on her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan , in Sajid Khan 's 'Houseful'. But sources close to her say that she is yet to accept the offer. 'Aishwarya has been approached by Sajid Khan but she has yet to revert back to them. She is busy with the shooting of 'Guzaarish', 'Action Replay' and 'Endhiran',' Aishwarya's spokesperson told IANS. Recent media reports suggested that Sajid Nadiadwala had bought the rights of the song, which is from the 1981 blockbuster 'Laawaris' and that he had approached Aishwarya for it. If at all the actress agrees to do the item number, it would be her third in over a decade-long career. In the past, she featured in item numbers like 'Ishq kamina' and 'Kajra re' - both the songs have been iconic in their own sense. While in 'Ishq kamina

Sajid Khan: HOUSEFULL would be Akshay's biggest hit

Image
Joginder Tuteja, Bollywood Trade News Network Director Sajid Khan is extremely confident about HOUSEFULL, first major release of Summer 2010, turning out to be the biggest ever hit of its lead actor Akshay Kumar and he doesn't mind letting the world know about it well in advance. "I have a very strong intuition that HOUSEFULL would be Akshay's biggest hit till date. Yes, people do ask me how can I say that. After all Akshay and others have delivered so many hits over a period of time. See, the fact is that I am just a 2% director. For the remaining 98%, I am a blockbuster audience at heart. I watch movies 24X7 and literally breathe, drink, eat and live cinema. I know exactly what people want and how they want to see a film. I represent my audience and I am them. This is why I believe, for all the right reasons, that I am a much bigger audience than film maker", details Sajid who has been associated with the world of movies, either on the big screen or the small scre

Ramu on AB Junior's absence in RANN

Image
In Ram Gopal Varma 's multi starrer RANN, Amitabh Bachchan spearheads the show with a dozen odd other characters forming a major part of the film's ensemble. While Sudeep, who was last seen in Ramu directed PHOONK, plays Amitabh Bachchan's son, Riteish Deshmukh plays his young admirer. With RANN supposed to be driven through these three principal characters, one wonders why Abhishek Bachchan wasn't roped in to play one of the two roles that are being enacted by Sudeep and Riteish respectively? After all Ramu is known for his closeness with Bachchans, he has already directed Abhishek in NAACH, SARKAR and SARKAR RAJ while AB Junior has also returned the favour by dancing to the tune of 'Mehbooba Mehbooba' in AAG. In a multi starrer like RANN where there is also a strong thread of father-son relationship, wasn't there a possibility of Abhishek finding an entry as well? "The point is that we have already explored the father-son relationship between Amitab

VEER Salman demonstrates his massy clout again!

Image
Anil Sharma 's VEER may not have done a GADAR, but it has definitely proved beyond doubt the box-office clout of its lead actor Salman Khan , and has re-established him as the darling of the masses. It has also demonstrated that Salman's last hit WANTED was not a flash in the pan and that his hold over single screens is second to none and his fan base is very much intact. For those who are unaware, VEER has done extremely well at single screens (it was aimed there, just like WANTED) and its first week business is definitely close on heels of Salman's last hit. While WANTED netted over 34 crores from India, VEER too has an impressive 33 crores to show from its opening week, despite some bad reviews and poor word of mouth. The lag of a crore or so may be attributed to the fact that WANTED had the advantage of releasing during the festive Eid period. Not only that, VEER has done almost similar business (though ordinary!) in the Overseas too

Saif: 10 years later, Padma Shri may seem natural

Image
Even though he is one of the youngest actors to have been honoured with Padma Shri, Saif Ali Khan is pretty low key about the entire affair. He is accepting the title with all humility but still he truly believes that there are many more people out there who truly deserved it more than him. Also, he feels that despite the title, it won't have much bearing amongst the industry folks. "Honestly speaking, I feel really humbled and undeserving on being awarded the Padma Shri. It isn't something that I had asked for and since Govt. of India has done this for me, all I can do is to deliver my best and live up to it", said Saif Ali Khan a few days after the feeling sunk in. In the past, some of the biggest names in the field of entertainment who have been conferred with such honour are veterans like Amitabh Bachchan (Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan), Rajnikanth (Padma Bhushan) and Kamal Hassan (Padma Shri). This year, Aamir Khan has joined the elite list as well with a Padma Bh

Anchoring is easier than acting: Abhishek Bachchan

Just two episodes after his debut TV show 'National Bingo Night', Abhishek Bachchan has taken a fancy to anchoring and says it is more enjoyable than acting. Slamming reports that the show is 'boring', he says he is looking forward to a second season. 'If the rating is so high, it means something about the show is working. It can't just be my face. If it was just my face then other artists who have been on shows earlier would have got the same rating,' Abhishek told IANS in an interview here. 'Anchoring is easier because in acting there are so many other things that come into play,' he said. 'Here you just have to be yourself,' said Abhishek, who was here to promote the show. 'I wanted to do something on television that would have been interactive with my audience and 'Bingo' was like that. There are 200 (people in the) studio audience with whom I interact and then we have the whole home-viewing audience that sits a

'Ishqiya' elbows out 'Rann' at box office

Vishal Bhardwaj has done it again. After the success of 'Kaminey', his rustic 'Ishqiya' has beaten the Amitabh Bachchan starrer 'Rann' at the box office, thanks to its appealing content. Both movies released Friday and had star-studded red-carpet premieres in the capital Thursday, but 'Ishqiya' took the cake with almost 80 percent collections in the opening weekend. 'Rann' got only around 30 percent collections. ''Ishqiya' has got a strong opening in both Delhi and Uttar Pradesh in both multiplexes and single-screens. It has got around 80 percent business over the initial weekend,' Yogesh Raizada, corporate head (cinemas) of Wave Cinemas, told IANS. 'The dialogue delivery in the movie is very good and it is a typical masala movie but the drawback is that everyone might not like it because it has its own class. While 'Rann' is gripping but has managed only around 30 percent opening. There has been no initial f
