Sony Ericsson camera-centric CES tease could be Arc HD

Image
Sony Ericsson continues its pre-CES teaser campaign, following yesterday’s sheathed device with a quartet of close-ups apparently previewing an HD-capable Android device. “Just a few more days until we can reveal some interesting news” the company says of the mysterious device, which going by the images is close or identical in outward appearance to the existing XPERIA Arc S. That’s the same curved camera key, squared-off microUSB port and HD camera labeling as on the Arc S. Meanwhile, the Android camera/video toggle control from the gallery app would seem to hammer home that the new phone will be a multimedia-centric device. The obvious explanation is the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Arc HD, well rumored over the past weeks, though with details still uncertain. Different leaks have tipped a 1.5GHz dual-core or 1GHz quadcore processor, a 12- to 13-megapixel camera, Full HD 1080p video recording and a choice of 16Gb or 32GB of storage, along with a 960 x 540 or 1280 x 720 display. Study finds that Russian Quasicrystals may have come from space

Image
Back in the 1980′s, a scientist named Daniel Schechtman was the first to describe a quasicrystal and won the Nobel Prize in chemistry for the discovery. Some looked on the idea of the quasicrystals as impossible at the time they were first described. The reason is that the quasicrystal doesn’t have the symmetry that goes with normal crystalline structures. Quasicrystals also have different physical and electrical properties when compared to normal crystals as well. In 2009, researchers from the University of Florence, Italy discovered quasicrystals in minerals sampled from the Koryak mountains in Russia. The mineral had a composition of aluminum, copper, and iron and proved quasicrystals could form and remain stable under natural conditions. However, it remained unclear how exactly the structure formed. Scientists think they have an explanation for the formation of the mineral quasicrystal structure. Researchers now think that the mineral found in Russia formed in space and is of

Samsung Audio Docks pack AllShare, AirPlay and Bluetooth

Image
Samsung has revealed a range of new audio docks ahead of CES, the DA-E750 and DA-E670, targeting Apple and Android phone device users connecting either wired or wirelessly. The Samsung Audio Dock DA-E750 includes a 100W home-grown hybrid vacuum tube amp powering a 2.1 speaker system including subwoofer, with AllShare support for Samsung devices, AirPlay for Apple gadgets and Bluetooth for everything else. If you haven’t got a wireless-enabled device, then you can either hook up via the analog composite input or the USB port. The latter also recognizes memory sticks, PMPs and hard-drives loaded with MP3, WMA and WAV files. As for the Samsung Audio Dock DA-E670, that has a 40W amp – though no vacuum tube tech – driving a 2.1 speaker system. Connectivity includes an aux-in port and Bluetooth, along with a USB port, AllShare and AirPlay just like its more complex sibling. No word on pricing or availability at this stage, though we’ll know more at CES next week.
