Egypt permanently opens Gaza border crossing

Image
Egypt lifted a four-year-old blockade on the Gaza Strip's main link to the outside world Saturday, bringing relief to the crowded territory's 1.5 million Palestinians but deepening a rift with Israel since the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak earlier this year. The Egyptian move will allow thousands of Gazans to move freely in and out of the area — heightening Israeli fears that militants and weapons could easily reach its doorstep. Israel and Egypt imposed the blockade after the Islamic militant Hamas seized control of Gaza in June 2007. The closure, which also included tight Israeli restrictions at its cargo crossings with Gaza and a naval blockade, was meant to weaken Hamas, but it also fueled an economic crisis in the densely populated territory. Hundreds of Gazans gathered early Saturday as the first bus load of passengers crossed the border at 9 a.m. Two Egyptian officers stood guard next to a large Egyptian flag atop the border gate as the vehicle rumbled through. Breaking Bad Season 4 Premiere Date & Details

Image
Breaking Bad fans have had a very long wait. The season 3 finale of the show aired back in June 2010 and the filming of season 4 was delayed. However, here's some good news for you. Breaking Bad season 4 will officially premiere on AMC on July 17. Vince Gilligan, the creator of the critically acclaimed show, also gave a few hints about season 4's plot to USA Weekend . Season 3 focused on Walter's (Bryan Cranston) cancer going into remission, which was good news. But his wife Ana decided to file for divorce and his DEA brother-in-law is out to bust him. When Breaking Bad returns for its fouth season, Gilligan says that “I don’t want to give too much away, but I can tell you that this season will push Walt’s relationship with his family and his partner, Jesse [Aaron Paul], to the breaking point and beyond, and they’ll all find themselves further down the proverbial rabbit hole than they ever thought possible." Gilligan promises that fans will not be disappoint

Mad Men Star Set To Direct Season 5 Premiere

Image
When Mad Men finally returns next year the first episode looks set to be directed than none other than Don Draper himself, Jon Hamm. Whilst we would normally be preparing for the premiere of AMC's hit series to hit screens this summer, due to protracted contract negotiations that sadly won't be the case this year and so any morsel of Mad Men news will have to suffice until the show returns in March 2012. This piece of news is rather interesting in that it leads to very early speculation about how much Hamm will be in the premiere if is also performing duties behind the camera. He is following in fellow Mad Men actor John Slattery's footsteps who directed two episodes last season (4.4 "The Rejected" and 4.12 "Blowing Smoke") and performed well in his acting and directing duties on both. The difference between the two however is that it is much easier to have an episode with less Roger than it is to have an episode with less Don. As this is Hamm's fi

Secret Diary of a Call Girl: So What About That Finale?

Image
It has to be tough being a showrunner and figuring out just how to end your series. If you go too conclusive, you risk being labeled as cliché and if you decide to leave things too open ended, a lot of fans end up feeling like they’ve wasted their time, whether that’s the right attitude to have or not. You have to worry about character arcs, current plotlines, the past, the future, motivations, and fan expectations while trying to make the best possible product that you can. While some shows that I’ve watched haven’t ended exactly the way I wanted, I usually can understand where they were going and why they chose that direction. Secret Diary of a Call Girl is one of those shows. The ITV2 transplant finished airing its fourth and final season tonight on Showtime, culminating in Belle rejecting both boyfriend Ben and wannabe paramour Harry and strolling down the streets of London one final time. It completely took me off guard and for a good 10 minutes after it finished airing, I was a

Glee Season 3 Spoilers

Image
I don't think I'm the only person frustrated with Glee after the second season. After starting off with a promising premiere last fall, the show seemed to flounder. It continued to be the most inconsistent show on television, but the characters also seemed to have split personalities and the show ventured into public-service announcements instead of being a fun show about music and outcasts. The second season finale - which had New Directions traveling to New York City to compete in Nationals - ended with the glee club not even making it into the top 10. The kids were unprepared and distracted before their performances and while I thought their performances were good on stage, the judges didn't agree they were good enough. There were a few bright spots, though. Rachel and Finn got back together (and crazy Quinn seems to have toned down the attitude for the time being), there was an adorable scene between Kurt and Blaine towards the end and - shocker! - Mercedes and
