Vivek Oberoi files Rs. 25 crore defamation case

Last week was not so pleasant for actor Vivek Oberoi. The actor and his father Suresh Oberoi received a non-bailable warrant from a metropolitan magistrate court with regard to a bounced cheque worth Rs. 3 crore. Apart from the duo, four members from board of directors and a manager from Oberoi Mutimedia Ltd had also been accused for the same. The complaint had been filed by Jawaharlal Agicha who acquainted with Suresh Oberoi's relative and company's MD Anand Oberoi and its manager Anil Lalwani. Agicha informed that he received only Rs 50,000 in January 2010 via cheque, while another cheque of Rs. 3 crore meant for realisation on October 19, 2010, bounced.

In response to the accusation levied on him and his family, Vivek has retaliated by filing a Rs. 25 crore defamation case against the concerned person. Vivek claims that the news being spread is false and is an attempt to defame the name of him and his family. The Oberoi's had already filed 2 different Criminal Writ Petitions before the High Court, Mumbai, in which by order dated 28th July, 2011 the High Court had stayed the case pending against them to be heard before the Hon'ble Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Mazgaon, Mumbai. When the same was brought to the notice of the Magistrate he stayed his own order of issuing the Non-Bailable-Warrant against Vivek and his father. This fact was brought to the notice of the complainant Jawaharlal Agicha, despite of which he went ahead and gave false information to the media intentionally to malign Vivek after his attempts of extorting money through various anti social elements failed.

Vivek's representatives have taken the matter to the concerned authorities and have filed Civil and Criminal Proceedings for the act of defamation including recovery of Rupees 25 crores in damages. The actor has also requested any one reporting this case to kindly refer to the facts with the authorities before entertaining any false claims. Fuming over the rumors, Vivek, who is currently shooting for Zilla Ghaziabad, said, "I am hurt and upset, as the entire news is false and baseless. There is a limit to my tolerance. People should know where to stop." Adding further on the issue, the actor stated "If anyone tries to cause disrepute to my family or extort money, we can't simply sit and take it."
