The Dane seemed to have finally got the better of 21-year-old Azarenka when she surged into a 5-0 lead in the deciding set.
But the eighth-seeded Belarusian embarked on a storming fightback to win four games on the trot and force Wozniacki to serve it out at 5-4.
To her credit, the world number two did just that to complete a 6-2 6-7 (3/7) 6-4 triumph in two hours and 51 minutes and clinch a place in the final against Elena Dementieva.

"I know she's a fighter and never gives up," Wozniacki said.
"At 5-0 she didn't have anything to lose so she just started going for her shots, and they were going in for her.
"At 5-4 I stepped it up a little bit, got some big first serves in and was able to close it out. We were both fighting and got better as it went on."
Dementieva saw off Francesca Schiavone 6-4 7-5.
The Italian saved two match points at 5-3 down but was unable to prevent the Russian from advancing.
