The Real Housewives of New Jersey: Oh, Yes... There Will Be (Gorga) Blood

The real housewives of new jerseyThe Real Housewives of New Jersey aired its second episode last night and during the aftermath of last week's christening brawl, I received some tweets and conversation about new cast member Melissa Gorga on the subject of her likability so far.

In short, not too many people I talk to care for the new Housewife at this point in time. In any other case this wouldn't be such a 'newsworthy' subject, but we all know that first appearances mean everything, and for Melissa and her hubby (and Teresa's brother) Joey Gorga, the last two episodes have not been too flattering for either of their 'characters.'

Last night's episode showed more Teresa bashing from Camp Gorga as Melissa and Joey pleaded (and whined?) their side of last week's brawl to Kathy and her husband Rich, who listened with not only sympathetic ears, but critical ones as well. I seriously like Kathy and Rich, because they know that regardless of who did what, at the end of the day the whole civil feud is ultimately petty to them and needs to be squashed quick. However, the two still remain on the fence in the matter, but the blow up between Teresa and Kathy after the last night's fashion show might persuade the Wakiles to become life long card members of the We Hate Teresa Giudice Fan Club, which I pray doesn't happen... to an extent.

The saddest thing in the whole episode to me was the reappearance of the 'Dimmy Kimmys' aka Kim "Kim G." Granatell and Kim "Kim D." DePoala, but while Kim D.'s appearance was warranted to tonight's central plot (the annual Posche fashion show), Kim G. was just there to stir up drama and self-promotion for a permanent spot on the show. Obviously she didn't get the memo last year to stop trying, because as soon as she came on the screen Kim G. was knee-deep in Melissa and Kathy's business concerning Teresa in order to mix herself up in this season's drama. The whole scene was a sick and deplorable excuse for Kim G. to reclaim relevancy to the series since Danielle Staub has left the scene, but Kim G. did not stop there.

Later at the Posche event, Kim G. made it her business to sit with Melissa and her sisters as if they were the best of friends, cackling with them as Teresa took her turn on the catwalk. Kim G's blatant attempt to be relevant with the show has surpassed ridiculous, entering head first into "fame whore" territory and needs to be stopped immediately. However, it seemed as if Kathy and Melissa studied last season's episodes and know a viper when they see one since they opted out of Kim G.'s rant against Teresa. Melissa's sisters, on the other hand, sat out on that training session as they ate up the attention seeker's nastiness and asked for seconds afterwards. This takes me back to the topic at hand...

As I mentioned last week, Melissa has not crossed over into "truly" likeable territory with me yet, because she hasn't shown any shred of innocence in these last two episodes (besides not divulging in bashing Teresa with Kim G.). At this point, she seems spoiled and her family, including Joey Gorga, are not helping her win over viewers by starting a lot of the fights and spats that we've seen so far. Maybe Melissa should have taken on a more subdued,' innocent bystander' role as Kathy has, then maybe she probably would have won some sympathy votes from some of the fans of the show.

Speaking of Kathy, she pretty much had the common sense to stay out of the Teresa/Joey/Melissa mess as much as possible, but after officially inserting herself into the fracas by pissing off Teresa after the fashion show, Kathy made the mistake of doing so at the Brownstone of all places, which promptly put her (and the Giudice/Gorga camps) in the warpath of Caroline Manzo and that can't be good at all.

One of the best moments of the night was how Caroline pretty much gave Kathy and Melissa the riot act for bringing their drama to the fashion show. While some people might beg to differ, Kathy seriously should have waited to bring up the christening, which was still a hot topic in town, because now it only puts their family's personal business further out into the public. So in retrospect, can we say Teresa wasn't being phony by not acknowledging the brawl at the christening, but instead was being mindful of the privacy of Giudice/Gorga families? It's likely. Will the public see it any other way? Doubtful.

Plus, if anyone caught Watch What Happens Live last night, they will be surprised to find 1) Teresa looking extremely uncomfortable on the set the entire night, 2) Teresa winning the "Whose Side Are You On?" poll between she and Melissa (final tally was Teresa 92% to Melissa's 8%) and not gloating about it. The poll results were astounding to me, because I was sure that the public would throw Teresa under the bus out of sheer hate, but it seems that I misjudged the viewers of the Real Housewives of New Jersey on this subject. However, not everyone watches Watch What Happens Live and those poll results don't necessarily reflect everyone's opinion on the matter. So, I can't help but to leave this post by asking the question of the season: Who Side Are You On? Team Teresa? Team Melissa? Team Neither?
